Abstract: A wastewater treatment plant is a complex stochastic dynamic system. The methodology developed by Box and Jenkins to model time series is used to characterize the field BOD input data for a sewage treatment plant. A simple first-order autoregressive model describes the data fairly well for many engineering purposes. Modeling system inputs and outputs is the first step in deriving stochastic-dynamic transfer functions for the system.
