Estimated transmissibility and impact of SARS-CoV-2 lineage B.1.1.7 in England.

TL;DR: Using a variety of statistical and dynamic modeling approaches, the authors estimate that this variant has a 43 to 90% (range of 95% credible intervals, 38 to 130%) higher reproduction number than preexisting variants, and a fitted two-strain dynamic transmission model shows that VOC 202012/01 will lead to large resurgences of COVID-19 cases.

Testing, tracing and isolation in compartmental models

TL;DR: This paper presents a new method for accurately including the effects of Testing, contact-Tracing and Isolation (TTI) strategies in standard compartmental models and shows that the resultant SEIR-TTI model accurately approximates the behaviour of a mechanistic agent-based model at far less computational cost.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modelling the potential impact of mask use in schools and society on COVID-19 control in the UK.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess the importance of masks in secondary schools by evaluating their impact over September 1-October 23, 2020 and show that, assuming TTI levels from August 2020 and no fundamental changes in the virus's transmissibility, adoption of masks would have reduced the predicted size of a second wave, but preventing it would have required 68% or 46% of those with symptoms to seek testing (assuming masks' effective coverage 15% or 30% respectively).
