TL;DR: An overview of the development and application of mobile technology in South Korean libraries is provided and the new mission for building high quality mobile library services is identified and the future of mobile library architecture is discussed.
Abstract: Mobile library services are still lacking and insufficient to meet the increasing needs of various users. This paper provides an overview of the development and application of mobile technology in South Korean libraries. It presents the service contexts and issues for the future application and access in the mobile library field. This paper categorizes real world examples. It identifies the new mission for building high quality mobile library services and discusses the future of mobile library architecture. It also presents a summary of key aspects of mobile library projects in South Korea and suggests major areas for future planning and development. Finally it envisions the future of mobile library technology.

TL;DR: If a more coordinated and coherent approach to building digital libraries is to succeed in South Korea, all libraries and institutions will need to work closely together to establish the appropriate framework for cooperation.
Abstract: As information technologies have developed, the digital library is making the library undergo a changing paradigm of its role to create, organize, and distribute information resources. Digital libraries have created and promoted innovative information services with digitization of resources. The development of digital libraries has been attracting the attention of many countries and South Korea is no exception. This article provides an overview of recent developments in digital libraries in South Korea. To build the digital library, various innovative projects are currently in progress involving a range of different libraries and institutions. This article also discusses information policies, standards, and technical issues in South Korea in recent years. Until now, the various projects involving digital collections and digital libraries in South Korea have been carried out with very little coordination. If a more coordinated and coherent approach to building digital libraries is to succeed in South Korea, all libraries and institutions will need to work closely together to establish the appropriate framework for cooperation.

TL;DR: This review aims to provide a snapshot of digital library research of the past 11 years that focuses on organisational and people issues, including those concerning the social/cultural, legal, ethical, and use dimensions.
Abstract: Purpose – This review aims to provide a snapshot of digital library research of the past 11 years (1997‐2007) that focuses on organisational and people issues, including those concerning the social/cultural, legal, ethical, and use dimensions.Design/methodology/approach – The review covers articles published in mainstream peer‐reviewed library and information science/studies journals. The analysis was done by drawing on a sample of 577 articles published in both academic and professional LIS journals.Findings – The analysis reveals that there are several topics that are dominant in the sample. There are significant research streams into one or more aspects of digital library use and usability, organisational and economical issues, as well as legal issues. In comparison, there is very little research in the sample that addresses ethical issues and social/cultural issues. D‐Lib Magazine tops the list as the journal with the highest number of articles published and in spite of some fluctuations, there was an...

TL;DR: The problems LIS postgraduate students face in accessing e‐resources in Makerere University, Uganda are presented and discussed specifically to present and discuss specifically the problems they face.
Abstract: Purpose – This paper is part of the study that was conducted to analyse the LIS postgraduate e‐resources seeking behaviour in Makerere University, Uganda. Its purpose is to present and discuss specifically the problems LIS postgraduate students face in accessing e‐resources.Design/methodology/approach – Survey research techniques were used in which the data collected using structured questionnaires were carefully handled and analysed using the Excel computer program to generate the frequencies, percentages and pie charts.Findings – The respondents have positive attitudes towards e‐resources utilization and they indicated varied problems faced in e‐resources utilization and proposed different strategies to improve on e‐resources in the University. Among the problems identified are: slow Internet connectivity, inadequate networked computers, lack of access to low cost printers in the library, using advanced search strategies of most databases and lack of awareness of most of the e‐resources.Originality/valu...

TL;DR: This study supported the two core variables model (perceived ease of use and usefulness) of TAM that may predict librarians' behavioral intention to use m‐services in the library and added two more components to the model: personal innovativeness and smar...
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore whether librarians are familiar with technological innovations and are ready to accept them. The objectives are: to what extent does the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) explain librarians' perceptions of mobile services (m‐services); and to what extent do differences in gender, age, workplace, role, and smart phone use explain librarians' perceptions of m‐services?Design/methodology/approach – The research was conducted in Israel during the first semester of the 2012 academic year. It encompassed three groups of Israeli librarians: academic, public, and special. Researchers used two questionnaires to gather data: a personal details questionnaire, and a mobile technology questionnaire.Findings – This study supported the two core variables model (perceived ease of use and usefulness) of TAM that may predict librarians' behavioral intention to use m‐services in the library. However, it added two more components to the model: personal innovativeness and smar...

TL;DR: The concept of Digital library, the technology that has enabled its emergence & architecture of digital library system are examined, and possible challenges ahead for library and information professionals in the digital environment are explored.
Abstract: During the past recent years, there has been tremendous development reaming the concept of digital libraries-a knowledge base that can be stored and retrieved through on-line networks. Digital libraries are the most complex form of information systems that support digital document preservation, distributed database management, hypertext, filtering, information retrieval and selective dissemination of information. This has really overcome geographical barrier offering wide range of academic, research and cultural resources with multimedia effects which can be accessed around the world over the distributed networks. The paper examines the concept of Digital library, the technology that has enabled its emergence & architecture of digital library system. It also highlights the digital library projects undertaken in USA, UK and India. Here the authors explored the unique feature of digital library and possible challenges ahead for library and information professionals in the digital environment.

TL;DR: This paper explores mobile libraries by comparing users’ perceptions of web digital libraries and mobile libraries in terms of flow experience so as to obtain insights regarding the healthy development of mobile libraries.
Abstract: Purpose – Flow experience is conceptualized as an optimal experience about an activity, characterized by a match between perceived challenges and perceived skills. The purpose of this paper is to explore mobile libraries by comparing users’ perceptions of web digital libraries and mobile libraries in terms of flow experience so as to obtain insights regarding the healthy development of mobile libraries. Design/methodology/approach – Data collected from university digital library users were used for analysis. One figure was used to present the exact nature of users’ perceptions of flow experience in terms of data distribution. The paired samples t-test was used to present the exact mean difference between flow experience in using web digital libraries and mobile libraries. Findings – Fewer users can experience flow and more users cannot experience flow in using mobile libraries than in using web digital libraries. The mean of flow experience in using mobile libraries is significantly smaller than that in u...
