TL;DR: The MHS is trained and validated against the manually labelled items, achieving overall classification accuracy higher than 90% under two different testing scenarios, which significantly outperforms a reference CNN-based method relying on image-only inputs.
Abstract: This study proposes a multilayer hybrid deep-learning system (MHS) to automatically sort waste disposed of by individuals in the urban public area. This system deploys a high-resolution camera to capture waste image and sensors to detect other useful feature information. The MHS uses a CNN-based algorithm to extract image features and a multilayer perceptrons (MLP) method to consolidate image features and other feature information to classify wastes as recyclable or the others. The MHS is trained and validated against the manually labelled items, achieving overall classification accuracy higher than 90% under two different testing scenarios, which significantly outperforms a reference CNN-based method relying on image-only inputs.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a switched inductor double switch DC-DC converter (SL-DS-DC) to reduce the number of passive elements and maintain the same number of semiconductor devices.
Abstract: High voltage gain DC-DC converter is a prime requirement for renewable applications, in particular for PV. Though numerous DC-DC converter is available for increasing the voltage gain, the passive elements requirement is higher which reduces the compactness, consequently, increases the cost of the system. To address this issue, a high gain DC-DC converter is reported recently. However, the number of passive elements is quite high which increases the size. To reduce the number of passive elements and maintain the same number of semiconductor devices, in this paper, a new switched inductor arrangement is proposed which is named as switched inductor double switch DC-DC converter (SL-DS-DC). Moreover, the proposed converter has a higher gain as compared to the recently reported converter. The proposed converter is analyzed in steady state and a comparative analysis is presented to prove the suitability. Finally, the proposed converter is validated experimentally.

TL;DR: New discrete-time algorithms of the super-twisting observer and the twisting controller to be applied to second-order systems are proposed based on the full implicit-Euler discretization, which contributes to the elimination of chattering.
Abstract: This brief proposes new discrete-time algorithms of the super-twisting observer and the twisting controller to be applied to second-order systems. The algorithms are based on the full implicit-Euler discretization, which contributes to the elimination of chattering. Proofs of some stability properties of the discretized twisting controller are also provided. Simulations show that, as compared to traditional explicit-Euler schemes, the proposed scheme avoids the chattering both in trajectory tracking output and control input in the presence of external disturbances.

TL;DR: In this article, a novel VCA with concentration flux-line structure is reported, which greatly reduces the magnet leakage and has less electromagnetic interference with other electronic devices, and the output force sensitivity is 4.17 N/A with a coil of 300 turns and stroke is ± 2.5 mm.
Abstract: Voice coil actuators (VCAs) are applied in a fast steering mirror (FSM), precision positioning platform, etc. These applications demand that the VCAs used are simple, inexpensive, reliable, and efficient. In this paper, we report a novel VCA with concentration flux-line structure. The VCA greatly reduces the magnet leakage and has less electromagnetic interference with other electronic devices. The output force sensitivity of the VCA is 4.17 N/A with a coil of 300 turns and the stroke is ±2.5 mm. Driven by this VCA, the mechanical scanning angle of the FSM can achieve ±4.9 deg when the scanning frequency is 100 Hz.

TL;DR: The free-will arbitrary time consensus protocol is formulated for multiagent systems and is shown to attain consensus as well as average consensus within the prespecified arbitrary time.
Abstract: In this article, the free-will arbitrary time consensus is formulated for multiagent systems. This consensus protocol is independent of initial conditions and any other system parameters. With such a protocol, the multiagent system is shown to attain consensus as well as average consensus within the prespecified arbitrary time. Agents rendezvous can also be accomplished with the given protocol. Communication imperfections are easily handled with the designed protocol. Robust free-will arbitrary time consensus protocol is also designed. The stability of such nonlinear nonautonomous protocols is established using suitable Lyapunov functions. Simulation examples confirm the theoretical findings.

TL;DR: “Multivalued Analysis” is the theory of set-valued maps (called multifonctions) and has important applications in many different areas and there is no doubt that a modern treatise on “Nonlinear functional analysis” can not afford the luxury of ignoring multivalued analysis.
Abstract: “Multivalued Analysis” is the theory of set-valued maps (called multifonctions) and has important applications in many different areas. Multivalued analysis is a remarkable mixture of many different parts of mathematics such as point-set topology, measure theory and nonlinear functional analysis. It is also closely related to “Nonsmooth Analysis” (Chapter 5) and in fact one of the main motivations behind the development of the theory, was in order to provide necessary analytical tools for the study of problems in nonsmooth analysis. It is not a coincidence that the development of the two fields coincide chronologically and follow parallel paths. Today multivalued analysis is a mature mathematical field with its own methods, techniques and applications that range from social and economic sciences to biological sciences and engineering. There is no doubt that a modern treatise on “Nonlinear Functional Analysis” can not afford the luxury of ignoring multivalued analysis. The omission of the theory of multifunctions will drastically limit the possible applications.

TL;DR: In this paper, a modification of the integrated friction model structure proposed by Swevers et al. called the Leuven model is presented, which allows accurate modeling both in the presliding and the sliding regimes without the use of a switching function.
Abstract: This note presents a modification of the integrated friction model structure proposed by Swevers et al. (2000), called the Leuven model. The Leuven model structure allows accurate modeling both in the presliding and the sliding regimes without the use of a switching function. The model incorporates a hysteresis function with nonlocal memory and arbitrary transition curves. This note presents two modifications of the Leuven model. A first modification overcomes a recently detected shortcoming of the original Leuven model: a discontinuity in the friction force which occurs during certain transitions in presliding. A second modification, using the general Maxwell slip model to implement the hysteresis force, eliminates the problem of stack overflow, which can occur with the implementation of the hysteresis force.
