Journal ArticleDOI
An approach to analyzing spatial patterns of planktonic ciliate communities for monitoring water quality in Jiaozhou Bay, northern China.
TL;DR: Results suggest that planktonic ciliated protozoa might be used as a robust bioindicator of marine water quality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Beyond the "Code": A Guide to the Description and Documentation of Biodiversity in Ciliated Protists (Alveolata, Ciliophora).
Alan Warren,David J. Patterson,Micah Dunthorn,John C. Clamp,Undine E.M. Achilles-Day,Erna Aescht,Saleh A. Al-Farraj,Saleh Al-Quraishy,Khaled A. S. Al-Rasheid,Martin Carr,John G. Zufall,Sabine Agatha +56 more
TL;DR: The present paper reviews issues relating to the taxonomy of ciliates and presents specific recommendations for best practice in the observation and documentation of their biodiversity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Planktonic protist communities in a semi-enclosed mariculture pond : structural variation and correlation with environmental conditions
Henglong Xu,Weibo Song,Alan Warren,Khaled A. S. Al-Rasheid,Saleh A. Al-Farraj,Jun Gong,Xiaozhong Hu +6 more
TL;DR: It was concluded that planktonic protists are potentially useful bioindicators of water quality in a semi-enclosed mariculture system and were strongly correlated with water temperature and abundances of bacteria.
Journal ArticleDOI
A molecular phylogenetic investigation of Pseudoamphisiella and Parabirojimia (Protozoa, Ciliophora, Spirotrichea), two genera with ambiguous systematic positions
Zhenzhen Yi,Weibo Song,Alan Warren,David McL. Roberts,Khaled A. S. Al-Rasheid,Zigui Chen,Saleh A. Al-Farraj,Xiaozhong Hu +7 more
TL;DR: The present study supports the conclusion reported by previous researchers that urostylids could be a paraphyletic assemblage and that Uroleptus and Paruroleptus should be removed from the order Urostylida and a new suborder Parabirojimina n.
Journal ArticleDOI
Functional groups of marine ciliated protozoa and their relationships to water quality
TL;DR: It was shown that aloricate ciliates and tintinnids represented different roles in structuring and functioning of the communities, suggesting that the ciliate communities may be constructed by several functional groups in response to the environmental conditions.
