Journal ArticleDOI

Bcl-2 antiapoptotic proteins inhibit Beclin 1-dependent autophagy.

TL;DR: Bcl-2 not only functions as an antiapoptotic protein, but also as an antiautophagy protein via its inhibitory interaction with Beclin 1, which may help maintain autophagy at levels that are compatible with cell survival, rather than cell death.
Journal ArticleDOI

Promotion of tumorigenesis by heterozygous disruption of the beclin 1 autophagy gene

TL;DR: It is shown that heterozygous disruption of beclin 1 increases the frequency of spontaneous malignancies and accelerates the development of hepatitis B virus-induced premalignant lesions, providing genetic evidence that autophagy is a novel mechanism of cell-growth control and tumor suppression.
Journal ArticleDOI

Autophagy Gene-Dependent Clearance of Apoptotic Cells during Embryonic Development

TL;DR: It is concluded that autophagy contributes to dead-cell clearance during PCD by a mechanism that likely involves the generation of energy-dependent engulfment signals.
Journal ArticleDOI

ARID1A mutations confer intrinsic and acquired resistance to cetuximab treatment in colorectal cancer

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors show that anti-EGFR but not anti-VEGF treatment enriches for emerging ARID1A mutations in colorectal cancer patients and that patients with ARID 1A mutations, at baseline, are associated with worse outcome when treated with cetuximab- but not bevacizumab-containing therapies.
