TL;DR: In this article, a ternary assembly of Ag-CsPbBr3/CN composite was used to degrade 7-aminocephalosporanic acid (7-ACA) under visible light irradiation.
Abstract: A visible-light-induced antibiotics degradation system based on a nano-Ag, CsPbBr3 quantum dot (QDs) and bulk g-C3N4 (CN) ternary assembly (Ag-CsPbBr3/CN) has been firstly constructed under an organic phase environment, oleylamine (OLA) and oleic acid (OA) were used as surfactants to stabilize the CsPbBr3, l -cysteine was used to facilitate the interaction between nano-Ag, CsPbBr3 and CN. The new ternary assembly of Ag-CsPbBr3/CN composite was used to degrade 7-aminocephalosporanic acid (7-ACA) under visible light irradiation, and the 7%-Ag-CsPbBr3/CN composite displayed the superior photocatalytic activity, approximately 92.79% of 7-ACA has been degraded to CO2, H2O and other small molecules at 140 min, which was approximately 1.49-folds, 1.56-folds, 3.01-folds and 11.43-folds higher than 9%-CsPbBr3/CN, 7%-Ag/CN, pure CN and pure CsPbBr3, respectively. A possible mechanism for 7-ACA degradation over Ag-CsPbBr3/CN composite were proposed according to detailed measurements of adsorption test, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) measurement, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS), photoluminescence spectra (PL), transient photocurrent response and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurement, and the enhanced photocatalytic activity of Ag-CsPbBr3/CN composite could be attributed to the excellent adsorbability, the enhanced light-harvesting and reduced charge recombination, as well as the synergistic effects of nano-Ag and CsPbBr3 co-loaded with CN. In addition, Holes (h+) and hydroxyl radicals ( OH) played major roles, electronic (e−) and superoxide radical ( O2-) played minor roles based on the reactive-species-trapping experiments, the NBT transformation and the 7-hydroxycoumarin fluorescent experiments. Furthermore, a possible 7-ACA degradation pathway was investigated based on the Liquid Chromatography-Mass spectroscopy (LC-MS) experiment to better understand the degradation process. The present opens up a new insight for using CsPbBr3 as photocatalyst to degrade antibiotics.

Abstract: Fluorescent biosensors are powerful analytical tools for studying biological events in living systems. Luminescent materials with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) attributes have attracted much research interest and have been identified as a novel class of luminogens to develop fluorescent turn-on biosensors with superior sensitivity. In this Tutorial Review, we present an overview of the AIE phenomenon and its mechanism. We summarize the structural design and working principle of AIE biosensors developed recently. Typical examples of AIE biosensors are presented.

TL;DR: The research expands the understanding of the nature of hydrogen bonding by delineating the interaction between hydrogen bonds and photons, thereby providing a basis for excited-state hydrogen bonding studies in photophysics, photochemistry, and photobiology.
Abstract: Because of its fundamental importance in many branches of science, hydrogen bonding is a subject of intense contemporary research interest. The physical and chemical properties of hydrogen bonds in the ground state have been widely studied both experimentally and theoretically by chemists, physicists, and biologists. However, hydrogen bonding in the electronic excited state, which plays an important role in many photophysical processes and photochemical reactions, has scarcely been investigated.Upon electronic excitation of hydrogen-bonded systems by light, the hydrogen donor and acceptor molecules must reorganize in the electronic excited state because of the significant charge distribution difference between the different electronic states. The electronic excited-state hydrogen-bonding dynamics, which are predominantly determined by the vibrational motions of the hydrogen donor and acceptor groups, generally occur on ultrafast time scales of hundreds of femtoseconds. As a result, state-of-the-art femtos...

TL;DR: In this paper, the basic principles, photocatalytic-reactor design, kinetics, key findings, and the mechanism of metal-doped TiO2 are comprehensively reviewed.
Abstract: Hydrogen (H2) production via photocatalytic water splitting is one of the most promising technologies for clean solar energy conversion to emerge in recent decades. The achievement of energy production from water splitting would mean that we could use water as a fuel for future energy need. Among the various photocatalytic materials, titanium dioxide (TiO2) is the dominant and most widely studied because of its exceptional physico-chemical characteristics. Surface decoration of metal/non-metal on TiO2 nanoparticles is an outstanding technique to revamp its electronic properties and enrich the H2 production efficiency. Metal dopants play a vital role in separation of electron-hole pairs on the TiO2 surface during UV/visible/simulated solar light irradiation. In this paper, the basic principles, photocatalytic-reactor design, kinetics, key findings, and the mechanism of metal-doped TiO2 are comprehensively reviewed. We found that Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetic model is commonly employed by the researchers to demonstrate the rate of H2 production. Copper (Cu), gold (Au) and platinum (Pt) are the most widely studied dopants for TiO2, owing to their superior work function. The metal dopants can amplify the H2 production efficiency of TiO2 through Schottky barrier formation, surface plasmon resonance (SPR), generation of gap states by interaction with TiO2 VB states. The recent advances and important consequences of 2D materials, perovskites, and other novel photocatalysts for H2 generation have also been reviewed.

TL;DR: A broad overview of the elementary steps of the heterogeneous photocatalytic H2 production, including an outline of the physico-chemical reactions occurring on semiconductors and cocatalysts, is provided in this paper.
Abstract: Photocatalytic hydrogen (H2) production is a process that converts solar energy into chemical energy by means of a suitable photocatalyst. After the huge amount of systems that have been tested in the last forty years, the advent of nanotechnology and a careful design at molecular level, allow to obtain attractive activity, even using pure visible light. At the same time we are approaching reasonable photocatalyst stability in laboratory test, and the attention is paid to identify cost-effective photocatalysts that might find real applications. This Review provides a broad overview of the elementary steps of the heterogeneous photocatalytic H2 production, including an outline of the physico-chemical reactions occurring on semiconductors and cocatalysts. The use of different renewable oxygenates as sustainable sacrificial agent for the H2 production is outlined, in view of a transition from fossil fuels to pure water splitting. Finally, the recent advances in the development of photocatalyst are discussed focusing on the current progress in organic and hybrid organic/inorganic photocatalysts.
