TL;DR: In this article, burning characteristics of fuel droplets containing nano and micron-sized aluminum particles were investigated, and five distinctive stages (preheating and ignition, classical combustion, microexplosion, surfactant flame, and aluminum droplet flame) were identified.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of particle materials, loading rate, and type of base fuel on suspension quality and combustion behavior were determined, and the results for dense nanosuspensions showed that most particles were burned as a large agglomerate at a later stage when all liquid fuel had been consumed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the evaporation characteristics of fuel droplets containing suspended aluminum nanoparticles were determined under natural and weak forced convections at varying flow temperatures, and it was shown that under higher convection temperatures droplet evapuration follows the classical D 2 -law under low forced convection or natural convection.

TL;DR: In this paper, the evaporation characteristics of nanofluid fuels with stable suspension of carbon-based nanostructures under radiation absorption in the ultraviolet-visible range were investigated.
Abstract: The present paper experimentally determined the evaporation characteristics of nanofluid fuels with stable suspension of carbon-based nanostructures under radiation absorption in the ultraviolet–visible range. The results show that the evaporation rates of the ethanol-based nanofluids containing multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) or carbon nanoparticles (CNPs) are both higher than the evaporation rate of pure ethanol. Additionally, ethanol fuel with the addition of MWCNTs has a higher droplet temperature and a higher evaporation rate than the one with the addition of CNPs or aluminum (Al). To determine the optical properties of various nanofluids, which can help to explain the observed evaporation behavior, we measured the transmission spectrum for each nanofluid, and the extinction coefficient was determined accordingly. The optical properties were also modeled using Rayleigh approximation. The importance of radiation absorption and scattering by the suspended nanostructures was identified for various...

TL;DR: In this paper, a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) is presented.
Abstract: Deposits of clastic carbonate-dominated (calciclastic) sedimentary slope systems in the rock record have been identified mostly as linearly-consistent carbonate apron deposits, even though most ancient clastic carbonate slope deposits fit the submarine fan systems better. Calciclastic submarine fans are consequently rarely described and are poorly understood. Subsequently, very little is known especially in mud-dominated calciclastic submarine fan systems. Presented in this study are a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) that reveals a >250 m thick calciturbidite complex deposited in a calciclastic submarine fan setting. Seven facies are recognised from core and thin section characterisation and are grouped into three carbonate turbidite sequences. They include: 1) Calciturbidites, comprising mostly of highto low-density, wavy-laminated bioclast-rich facies; 2) low-density densite mudstones which are characterised by planar laminated and unlaminated muddominated facies; and 3) Calcidebrites which are muddy or hyper-concentrated debrisflow deposits occurring as poorly-sorted, chaotic, mud-supported floatstones. TL;DR: Nanofluids have seen enormous growth in popularity since they were proposed by Choi in 1995 as mentioned in this paper, and there were nearly 700 research articles where the term nanofluid was used in the title, showing rapid growth from 2006 (175) and 2001 (10).
Abstract: Nanofluids—a simple product of the emerging world of nanotechnology—are suspensions of nanoparticles (nominally 1–100 nm in size) in conventional base fluids such as water, oils, or glycols. Nanofluids have seen enormous growth in popularity since they were proposed by Choi in 1995. In the year 2011 alone, there were nearly 700 research articles where the term nanofluid was used in the title, showing rapid growth from 2006 (175) and 2001 (10). The first decade of nanofluid research was primarily focused on measuring and modeling fundamental thermophysical properties of nanofluids (thermal conductivity, density, viscosity, heat transfer coefficient). Recent research, however, explores the performance of nanofluids in a wide variety of other applications. Analyzing the available body of research to date, this article presents recent trends and future possibilities for nanofluids research and suggests which applications will see the most significant improvement from employing nanofluids.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors summarized the important results regarding the improvement in the thermophysical properties of nanofluids and identified the opportunities for future research in the field of nanophotonics.
Abstract: This paper summarizes the important results regarding the improvement in the thermophysical properties of nanofluids. The influence of important parameters like particle's (loading, material, size, and shape), base fluid type, temperature, additives and pH value has been considered. There are many conflicting reports on the influence of parameters on thermophysical properties and the literature in this field is widespread, so this article would be beneficial for investigators to have a precise screening of a broad range of studies in this field. Further literature review of the applications of nanofluids with a particular focus on the advantages of using nanofluids in solar collectors and as coolants in automotive heat exchangers. The authors hope that this review can help in the translation of nanofluid technology from the lab scale research to industrial applications in solar collectors and automotive sector. At last, the paper identifies the opportunities for future research.
