Efficiency enhancement in Si solar cells by textured photonic crystal back reflector
Lingping Zeng,Yasha Yi,Ching-yin Hong,Jifeng Liu,Ning-Ning Feng,Xiaoman Duan,Lionel C. Kimerling,Bernard A. Alamariu +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, an efficient light-trapping scheme was developed for solar cells that can enhance the optical path length by several orders of magnitude using a textured photonic crystal as a backside reflector.
Journal ArticleDOI
Demonstration of enhanced absorption in thin film Si solar cells with textured photonic crystal back reflector
Lingping Zeng,Peter Bermel,Yasha Yi,Bernard A. Alamariu,Kurt Broderick,Jifeng Liu,Ching-yin Hong,Xiaoman Duan,John D. Joannopoulos,Lionel C. Kimerling +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the textured photonic crystal (TPC) backside reflector was applied to thin-film Si solar cells to increase the short-circuit current density.
Journal ArticleDOI
Photon band gap properties and omnidirectional reflectance in Si∕SiO2 Thue–Morse quasicrystals
L. Dal Negro,M. Stolfi,Yasha Yi,Jurgen Michel,Xiaoman Duan,Lionel C. Kimerling,J. LeBlanc,J. Haavisto +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors explain the physical origin of the TÕSiO2 Thue-Morse omnidirectional band gap as a result of periodic spatial correlations in the complex TÔM structure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spectrally enhanced light emission from aperiodic photonic structures
TL;DR: Light-emitting silicon-rich, SiNx∕SiO2 Thue-Morse (T-M) multilayer structures have been fabricated in order to investigate the generation and transmission of light in strongly aperiodic deterministic dielectrics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Photonic band gaps and localization in the Thue–Morse structures
Xunya Jiang,Yonggang Zhang,Songlin Feng,Kerwyn Casey Huang,Kerwyn Casey Huang,Yasha Yi,John D. Joannopoulos +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the photonic band gaps in Thue-Morse aperiodic systems can be separated into two flavors, the fractal gaps and the traditional gaps, distinguished by the presence or absence of fractal structure, respectively.
