Journal ArticleDOI

Adiponectin stimulates glucose utilization and fatty-acid oxidation by activating AMP-activated protein kinase

TL;DR: It is shown that phosphorylation and activation of the 5′-AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) are stimulated with globular and full-length Ad in skeletal muscle and only with full- lengths Ad in the liver, indicating that stimulation of glucose utilization and fatty-acid oxidation by Ad occurs through activation of AMPK.
Journal ArticleDOI

Annual change in pulmonary function and clinical phenotype in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

TL;DR: Emmphysema severity is independently associated with a rapid annual decline in FEV1 in COPD, and the Sustainers and Rapid decliners warrant specific attention in clinical practice.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antiviral Therapy for Cirrhotic Hepatitis C: Association with Reduced Hepatocellular Carcinoma Development and Improved Survival

TL;DR: A 7-year study on the inhibition of hepatocellular carcinoma development in the previous cohorts of the multicenter, prospective study of adults with chronic hepatitis C and cirrhosis to determine whether interferon therapy benefits cirrhotic patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interleukin-1β gene polymorphisms associated with hepatocellular carcinoma in hepatitis C virus infection

TL;DR: The IL‐1β‐31 genotype T/T or the IL‐ 1β‐511/‐31 haplotype C‐T is associated with the presence of HCC in Japanese patients with chronic HCV infection.
