TL;DR: In this paper, an approach is proposed to recognize the degree of facial expression change from time-sequential images by making a comparison between the trajectory of features and the expression change models.
Abstract: In order to construct a better human interface, recognition of facial expressions by means of computer is an important technology. An approach is proposed to recognize the degree of facial expression change from time-sequential images. The facial features in an input image sequence are tracked by using labeled graph matching with weighted links. To represent the relationship between the motion of features and change of expression, we construct expression change models by using B-spline curves. By making a comparison between the trajectory of features and the expression change models, the facial expression in the input image sequence can be recognized. Not only the category, but also the degree of facial expression change can be determined. Furthermore, the obtained expressional information is then fed back to guide the tracking in the next frame.

TL;DR: In this paper, a beam splitter, two lenses, a high resolution-low frame rate camera, and a low resolution-high-frame rate camera are used to generate high resolution and high frame rate video.
Abstract: An imaging system that is capable of generating high resolution and high frame rate video includes of a beam splitter, two lenses, a high resolution-low frame rate camera, and a low resolution-high frame rate camera. The beam splitter reflects a part of an incident ray. The two lenses gather the ray reflected from the beam splitter and the ray penetrating the beam splitter, respectively. The low resolution-high frame rate camera is a sensor that takes an image of the ray gathered by one of the lenses at a low resolution and a high frame rate. The high resolution-low frame rate camera is a sensor that takes an image of the ray gathered by the other of the lenses at a high resolution and a low frame rate.

TL;DR: This paper proposes a method to recognize hand gestures from a monocular image using colored gloves to detect specific region of hand easily and shows a learning result by the CAD model and recognition results in real images by the proposed method.
Abstract: This paper proposes a method to recognize hand gestures from a monocular image. We use colored gloves to detect specific region of hand easily. By using this method, we can treat easily the occlusion problem due to color information. Hand gesture are recognized by the decision tree made from the image features automatically by our proposed method. There are another pattern recognition methods using image features like nearest-neighbor method. But it is better for computation time to use the decision tree because the decision tree uses only few selected important features. In this paper, we show a learning result by the CAD model and recognition results in real images by our proposed method.

TL;DR: In this article, a system for generating video images with high frame rate and high resolutions was proposed, which includes a prismatic element 42, two lenses 44, a camera 28 with high resolutions and low frame rate, and a camera 39 with low resolutions and high frames rate.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging system for generating a video image with high frame rate and high resolutions. SOLUTION: The imaging system includes a prismatic element 42, two lenses 44, a camera 28 with high resolutions and low frame rate, and camera 39 with low resolutions and high frame rate. In the prismatic element 42, part of incident light is reflected. In the two lenses 44, the light reflected by the prismatic element 42 and the light passing through are condensed. The camera 30 with low resolutions and high frame rate is a sensor for photographing the light condensed by one lens 44 with low resolutions and high frame rate, and the camera 28 with high resolutions and low frame rate is a sensor for photographing the the light condensed by the other lens 44 with high resolutions and low frame rate.

TL;DR: The capability of the human visual system with respect to these problems is discussed, and it is meant to serve as an ultimate goal and a guide for determining recommendations for development of an automatic facial expression analyzer.
Abstract: Humans detect and interpret faces and facial expressions in a scene with little or no effort. Still, development of an automated system that accomplishes this task is rather difficult. There are several related problems: detection of an image segment as a face, extraction of the facial expression information, and classification of the expression (e.g., in emotion categories). A system that performs these operations accurately and in real time would form a big step in achieving a human-like interaction between man and machine. The paper surveys the past work in solving these problems. The capability of the human visual system with respect to these problems is discussed, too. It is meant to serve as an ultimate goal and a guide for determining recommendations for development of an automatic facial expression analyzer.
