Estimating the effects of corrosion pits on the fatigue life of steel plate based on the 3D profile

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of corrosion pits on the fatigue life of pre-corroded Q235 steel plates were investigated, and a non-destructive methodology based on 3D profile data for fatigue life prediction was presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Predicting the residual strength and deformability of corroded steel plate based on the corrosion morphology

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of corrosion on the mechanical performance of steel were investigated by conducting surface measurements and tensile tests on naturally corroded steel plates, and they found that significant degradations in strength and deformation can be observed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of corrosion on surface characterization and mechanical properties of butt-welded joints

TL;DR: In this article, the changes in surface morphology and mechanical properties for carbon steel butt-welded joints by ageing in salt spray environment were investigated, the results showed that the pitting geometrical parameters of all three zones had a similar time-dependent evolution rule, namely mean pit depth, maximum pit depth and volume box parameter all increased with the increasing exposure corrosion time, while pitting aspect ratio decreased.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experiment study on the failure mechanism of dry-mix shotcrete under the combined actions of sulfate attack and drying–wetting cycles

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the damage process and failure mechanism of shotcrete under the combined actions of sulfate attack and drying-wetting cycle and found that shotcrete was inherently more inhomogeneous, the compact area and defect region exhibited different erosion mechanisms and failure forms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Flexural performance evaluation of corroded steel beams based on 3D corrosion morphology

TL;DR: In this article, a noncontact 3D scanning system was employed to capture the corrosion features of three naturally corroded steel beams and to reconstruct the 3D geometries of the beams.
