Accurate secondary structure prediction and fold recognition for circular dichroism spectroscopy
András Micsonai,Frank Wien,Linda Kernya,Young-Ho Lee,Yuji Goto,Matthieu Réfrégiers,József Kardos +6 more
TL;DR: This work has developed a method called β-structure selection (BeStSel) for the secondary structure estimation that takes into account the twist of β-structures, and can predict the protein fold down to the topology level following the CATH classification from a single CD spectrum.
Journal ArticleDOI
BeStSel: a web server for accurate protein secondary structure prediction and fold recognition from the circular dichroism spectra.
András Micsonai,Frank Wien,Éva Bulyáki,Judit Kun,Éva Moussong,Young-Ho Lee,Yuji Goto,Matthieu Réfrégiers,József Kardos +8 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the orientation and twisting of β-sheets account for the observed spectral diversity, and a new method to estimate accurately the secondary structure is developed, and the originality of BeStSel is that it carries out a detailed secondary structure analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Graphene quantum dots prevent α-synucleinopathy in Parkinson's disease.
Dong-Hoon Kim,Je Min Yoo,Heehong Hwang,Heehong Hwang,Junghee Lee,Suhyun Lee,Seung Pil Yun,Myung Jin Park,Min Jun Lee,Seulah Choi,Sang Ho Kwon,Saebom Lee,Kwon Seung Hwan,Sangjune Kim,Yong Joo Park,Misaki Kinoshita,Young-Ho Lee,Seokmin Shin,Seung R. Paik,Sung Joong Lee,Seulki Lee,Byung Hee Hong,Han Seok Ko +22 more
TL;DR: GQDs penetrate the blood–brain barrier and protect against dopamine neuron loss induced by α-syn preformed fibrils, Lewy body/Lewy neurite pathology and behavioural deficits, and can rescue neuronal death and synaptic loss.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distinguishing crystal-like amyloid fibrils and glass-like amorphous aggregates from their kinetics of formation
Yuichi Yoshimura,Yuxi Lin,Hisashi Yagi,Young-Ho Lee,Hiroki Kitayama,Kazumasa Sakurai,Masatomo So,Hirotsugu Ogi,Hironobu Naiki,Yuji Goto +9 more
TL;DR: By monitoring the kinetics of the formation of amyloid fibrils and glass-like amorphous aggregates, it is shown that solubility and supersaturation will be key factors for further understanding the aberrant aggregation of proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Graphene quantum dots prevent alpha-synucleinopathy in Parkinson's disease.
Dong-Hoon Kim,Je Min Yoo,Heehong Hwang,Junghee Lee,Suhyun Lee,Seung Pil Yun,Myung Jin Park,MinJun Lee,Seulah Choi,Sang Ho Kwon,Saebom Lee,Seung-Hwan Kwon,Sangjune Kim,Yong Joo Park,Misaki Kinoshita,Young-Ho Lee,Seokmin Shin,Seung R. Paik,Sung Joong Lee,Seulki Lee,Byung Hee Hong,Han Seok Ko +21 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that GQDs exhibit anti-amyloid activity via direct interaction with alpha-synuclein (α-syn) aggregates and demonstrate that they have notable potency in not only inhibiting fibrillization of α-syn but also disaggregating mature fibrils in a time-dependent manner.
