TL;DR: JeJeong and Suh as mentioned in this paper introduced a notion of normal Jacobi operator R̄N for hypersurfaces M in a complex two-plane Grassmannians G2(C).
Abstract: In this talk, we introduce a notion of normal Jacobi operator R̄N for hypersurfaces M in a complex two-plane Grassmannians G2(C) in such a way that R̄NX = R̄(X,N)N∈End (TxM), x∈M for any tangent vector field X on M , where R̄ and N respectively denote the Riemannian curvature tensor and a unit normal vector field ofM inG2(C). The ambient space G2(C) has a remarkable geometric structure. It was known that G2(C) is the unique compact irreducible Riemannian symmetric space equipped with both a Kähler structure J and a quaternionic Kähler structure J. And the structure vecror field ξ, ξ = −JN , of a real hypersurface M in G2(C) is said to be a Reeb vector field. The almost contact structure vector fields {ξ1, ξ2, ξ3} are defined by ξi = −JiN , i = 1, 2, 3, where {J1, J2, J3} denote a canonical local basis of quaternionic Kähler structure J on G2(C). If the distributions D and D⊥ = Span{ξ1, ξ2, ξ3} are invariant by the shape operator A of M , that is, g(AD,D⊥) = 0, where TxM = D⊕D⊥, x∈M , then we call M is D⊥-invariant. The normal Jacobi operator R̄N is said to be Reeb parallel on M if the covariant derivative of the normal Jacobi operator R̄N along the direction of the Reeb vector ξ identically vanishes, that is, ∇ξR̄N = 0 . Related to such a Reeb parallel normal Jacobi operator R̄N , we give a complete classification of D⊥-invariant real hypersurfaces in complex two-plane Grassmannians G2(C) with Reeb parallel normal Jacobi operator. TL;DR: In this paper, the commuting property between the normal Jacobi operator and the structure Jacobi operators was investigated for Hopf real hypersurfaces in the complex quadric and a new characterization of Hopf hypersurface with the singular singular normal vector field was obtained.
Abstract: In this paper, first, we investigate the commuting property between the normal Jacobi operator~${\bar R}_N$ and the structure Jacobi operator~$R_{\xi}$ for Hopf real hypersurfaces in the complex quadric~$Q^m = SO_{m+2}/SO_mSO_2$, $m \geq 3$, which is defined by ${\bar R}_N R_{\xi} = R_{\xi}{\bar R}_N$. Moreover, a new characterization of Hopf real hypersurfaces with $\mathfrak A$-principal singular normal vector field in the complex quadric~$Q^{m}$ is obtained. By virtue of this result, we can give a remarkable classification of Hopf real hypersurfaces in the complex quadric~$Q^{m}$ with commuting Jacobi operators.

TL;DR: Choi et al. as mentioned in this paper evaluated the effects of genetic counseling education on Korean healthcare providers' knowledge, awareness, and counseling skills for patients at high risk of hereditary breast/ovarian cancer.
Abstract: PURPOSE Systematic educational programs and genetic counseling certification courses for hereditary breast/ovarian cancer (HBOC) have not yet been introduced in Korea. We provided and evaluated the effects of genetic counseling education on Korean healthcare providers' knowledge, awareness, and counseling skills for patients at high risk of HBOC. METHODS A 3-day educational program was conducted for healthcare providers who were interested in genetic counseling for patients at high risk of HBOC. Participants who completed a knowledge test and satisfaction questionnaire were included in the present sample. Pre-post comparisons were conducted to determine the effects of the intervention. RESULTS Significant differences between preprogram and postprogram knowledge scores were observed (p=0.002). Awareness (p<0.001) and confidence (p<0.001) regarding genetic counseling significantly increased after the training. Doctors and participants with fewer years of work experience performed well on the knowledge test. Previous educational experience was correlated with increased confidence in knowledge and counseling skills. CONCLUSION Genetic counseling education regarding HBOC improved knowledge and awareness of HBOC and enhanced confidence in the counseling process. The effects varied according to occupation and participants' previous education. The implementation of systematic educational programs that consider participant characteristics may improve the effects of such interventions.

TL;DR: The project participants hope that the adoption of this framework will facilitate communication among cytopathologists, endocrinologists, surgeons, and radiologists; facilitate cytologic-histologic correlation for thyroid diseases; facilitate research into the understanding of Thyroid diseases; and allow easy and reliable sharing of data from different laboratories for national and international collaborative studies.
Abstract: Objective To address terminology and other issues related to thyroid fine-needle aspiration (FNA), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) hosted The NCI Thyroid FNA State of the Science Conference. The conclusions regarding terminology and morphologic criteria from the NCI meeting led to the Bethesda Thyroid Atlas Project and form the framework for the Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology. Design Participants of the Atlas Project were selected from among the committee members of the NCI FNA State of the Science Conference and other participants at the live conference. The terminology framework was based on a literature search of English language publications dating back to 1995 using PubMed as the search engine; online forum discussions ( http://thyroidfna.cancer.gov/forums/default.aspx ); and formal interdisciplinary discussions held on October 22 and 23, 2007, in Bethesda, MD. Main outcome For clarity of communication, the Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology recommends that each report begin with one of the six general diagnostic categories. Each of the categories has an implied cancer risk that links it to an appropriate clinical management guideline. Conclusions The project participants hope that the adoption of this framework will facilitate communication among cytopathologists, endocrinologists, surgeons, and radiologists; facilitate cytologic-histologic correlation for thyroid diseases; facilitate research into the understanding of thyroid diseases; and allow easy and reliable sharing of data from different laboratories for national and international collaborative studies.

TL;DR: The results show that laparoscopic resection for locally advanced rectal cancer after preoperative chemoradiotherapy provides similar outcomes for disease-free survival as open resection, thus justifying its use.
Abstract: Summary Background Compared with open resection, laparoscopic resection of rectal cancers is associated with improved short-term outcomes, but high-level evidence showing similar long-term outcomes is scarce. We aimed to compare survival outcomes of laparoscopic surgery with open surgery for patients with mid-rectal or low-rectal cancer. Methods The Comparison of Open versus laparoscopic surgery for mid or low REctal cancer After Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (COREAN) trial was an open-label, non-inferiority, randomised controlled trial done between April 4, 2006, and Aug 26, 2009, at three centres in Korea. Patients (aged 18–80 years) with cT3N0–2M0 mid-rectal or low-rectal cancer who had received preoperative chemoradiotherapy were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive either open or laparoscopic surgery. Randomisation was stratified by sex and preoperative chemotherapy regimen. Investigators were masked to the randomisation sequence; patients and clinicians were not masked to the treatment assignments. The primary endpoint was 3 year disease-free survival, with a non-inferiority margin of 15%. Analysis was by intention to treat. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT00470951. Findings We randomly assigned 340 patients to receive either open surgery (n=170) or laparoscopic surgery (n=170). 3 year disease-free survival was 72·5% (95% CI 65·0–78·6) for the open surgery group and 79·2% (72·3–84·6) for the laparoscopic surgery group, with a difference that was lower than the prespecified non-inferiority margin (–6·7%, 95% CI −15·8 to 2·4; p Interpretation Our results show that laparoscopic resection for locally advanced rectal cancer after preoperative chemoradiotherapy provides similar outcomes for disease-free survival as open resection, thus justifying its use.
