TL;DR: In this paper, a Cu2O nanoparticle catalyzed borylation of activated and unactivated alkyl bromides is developed, using bis(pinacolato)diboron as a boron source.
Abstract: A Cu2O nanoparticle catalyzed borylation of activated and unactivated alkyl bromides is developed, using bis(pinacolato)diboron as a boron source. To the best of our knowledge this is the first report of a heterogeneous Cu2O nanocatalyst applied in the direct synthesis of primary and secondary alkylboronic esters. Our catalytic system features mild reaction conditions, high yield (nearly 100%) and the absence of ligands which otherwise are essential in homogenous catalysis.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of laser cutting process parameters on the quality of the cuts was analyzed based on the interaction mechanism between nanosecond UV laser and PET film with heating carbonization and hot melt as the core.
Abstract: Special-shaped polyethylene terephthalate (PET) films are widely used in the electronics industry, and high-quality cuts is one of the core parameters for expanding scope of PET applications. In this article, 355 nm nanosecond laser is used to obtain a high-quality PET cuts. First, the laser cutting quality evaluation system based on the straightness, the width of the cuts, and the size of the heat affected zone (HAZ) was defined. Then, the influence of laser cutting parameters on the cut’s quality was analyzed by 3 factors and 5 level orthogonal experiment, and high-quality cuts (width 25.2 ± 3.6 μm, HAZ 18.4 ± 2.2 μm, straightness 2.9 ± 0.32 μm) was obtained under the optimal process parameter combination. Finally, the interaction mechanism between nanosecond UV laser and PET film with heating carbonization and hot melt as the core was explored, and the effect of laser cutting process parameters on the quality of the cuts was analyzed based on this mechanism.

TL;DR: Baicalein and baicalin enhanced the phenylephrine-induced contraction most likely through inhibiting production or/and release of endothelial nitric oxide, whilst, cardamonin-, alpinetin- or (-)epicatechin-induced endothelium-dependent relaxation is primarily mediated through endothelialNitric oxide.
Abstract: "AIM: To examine the role of endothelium in the vascular responses to flavonoids, baicalein, baicalin, cardamonin, alpinetin, and to purified jasmine green tea (-)epicatechin in the isolated rate mesenteric artery rings. METHODS: The isometric contraction was measured by Grass force-displacement transducers. RESULTS: Both baicalein and baicalin enhanced the phenylephrine-induced contractile response in the endothelium-intact rings. This enhancement was abolished by pretreatment with the nitric oxide inhibitor NG-nitro-L-arginine or in the absence of the endothelium. Both flavonoids also inhibited the acetylcholine-induced endothelial nitric oxide-dependent relaxation. In contrast, cardamonin, alpinetin or (-)epicatechin induced both endothelium-dependent and -independent relaxation. NG-nitro-L-arginine meyhyl ester or endothelium denudation attenuated the endothelium-dependent relaxation to the same extent. CONCLUSION: Baicalein and baicalin enhanced the phenylephrine-induced contraction most likely through inhibiting production or/and release of endothelial nitric oxide. Whilst, cardamonin-, alpinetin- or (-)epicatechin-induced endothelium-dependent relaxation is primarily mediated through endothelial nitric oxide."

TL;DR: A fault-tolerant dynamic control method is developed for precise trajectory tracking of the four-wheel redundantly-actuated mobile robot, which utilizes a two-level structure to cover the wheel-ground interactions and possible actuator failures.
Abstract: Four-wheel redundantly-actuated mobile robot (FRMR) offers high controllability and maneuverability for automation applications. However, the robot dynamics and actuator failures are normally omitted in existing kinematic control schemes, which may lead to steering vibration and degraded robustness. To deal with these problems, a fault-tolerant dynamic control method is developed for precise trajectory tracking of the FRMR, which utilizes a two-level structure to cover the wheel-ground interactions and possible actuator failures. In the high level, with a novel fractional-order sliding mode control, this method offers an effective way to regulate the steering angle and eliminate the rotation chattering simultaneously. For the redundantly-actuated issue, a robust allocation solution is presented in the lower level to straightly determine optimal driving torques with full considerations of actuator failures and optimization efficiency. The convergence and stability of the achieved FRMR system are guaranteed theoretically. The experimental comparative results verify that higher tracking precision and enhanced robustness can be obtained using our proposed method.

TL;DR: There is, I think, something ethereal about i —the square root of minus one, which seems an odd beast at that time—an intruder hovering on the edge of reality.
Abstract: There is, I think, something ethereal about i —the square root of minus one. I remember first hearing about it at school. It seemed an odd beast at that time—an intruder hovering on the edge of reality. Usually familiarity dulls this sense of the bizarre, but in the case of i it was the reverse: over the years the sense of its surreal nature intensified. It seemed that it was impossible to write mathematics that described the real world in …

TL;DR: Comparing the results to the fastest reported vectorized Cray Y-MP and C90 algorithm shows that the current generation of parallel machines is competitive with conventional vector supercomputers even for small problems.
Abstract: Three parallel algorithms for classical molecular dynamics are presented. The first assigns each processor a fixed subset of atoms; the second assigns each a fixed subset of inter-atomic forces to compute; the third assigns each a fixed spatial region. The algorithms are suitable for molecular dynamics models which can be difficult to parallelize efficiently—those with short-range forces where the neighbors of each atom change rapidly. They can be implemented on any distributed-memory parallel machine which allows for message-passing of data between independently executing processors. The algorithms are tested on a standard Lennard-Jones benchmark problem for system sizes ranging from 500 to 100,000,000 atoms on several parallel supercomputers--the nCUBE 2, Intel iPSC/860 and Paragon, and Cray T3D. Comparing the results to the fastest reported vectorized Cray Y-MP and C90 algorithm shows that the current generation of parallel machines is competitive with conventional vector supercomputers even for small problems. For large problems, the spatial algorithm achieves parallel efficiencies of 90% and a 1840-node Intel Paragon performs up to 165 faster than a single Cray C9O processor. Trade-offs between the three algorithms and guidelines for adapting them to more complex molecular dynamics simulations are also discussed.
