Journal ArticleDOI
Trace metal behaviour in riverine sediments: Role of organic matter and sulfides
Adeline Charriau,Ludovic Lesven,Yue Gao,Martine Leermakers,Willy Baeyens,Baghdad Ouddane,Gabriel Billon +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, three sediment cores were collected in the Scheldt, Lys and Spiere canals, which drain a highly populated and industrialized area in Western Europe, and the speciation and the distribution of trace metals in pore waters and sediment particles were assessed through a combination of computational and experimental techniques.
Journal ArticleDOI
Daily variations of Zn and Pb concentrations in the Deûle River in relation to the resuspension of heavily polluted sediments.
Pierre-Jean Superville,Emilie Prygiel,Aurélie Magnier,Ludovic Lesven,Yue Gao,Willy Baeyens,Baghdad Ouddane,David Dumoulin,Gabriel Billon +8 more
TL;DR: The results clearly suggest that the resuspension of sedimentary particles into the overlying water significantly increased the dissolved electrolabile Pb and Zn contents.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-resolution profiles of trace metals in the pore waters of riverine sediment assessed by DET and DGT.
Yue Gao,Martine Leermakers,C. Gabelle,Pavel Diviš,Gabriel Billon,Baghdad Ouddane,J-C Fischer,Michel Wartel,Willy Baeyens +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, high-resolution vertical profiles of trace metals in freshwater sediments were obtained from the Upper Scheldt River (At Helkijn, Belgium) and the Leie River (at Warneton, located at the Belgian-French border).
Journal ArticleDOI
Arsenic speciation in fish and shellfish from the North Sea (Southern bight) and Açu Port area (Brazil) and health risks related to seafood consumption.
Yue Gao,Paulo Roberto Martins Baisch,Nicolai Mirlean,Flavio Manoel Rodrigues da Silva Júnior,Nik van Larebeke,Willy Baeyens,Martine Leermakers +6 more
TL;DR: Lifetime Cancer Risk values at the actual global seafood consumption rate of 54 g day-1 are above 10-4 for whelks, scallops, dogfish, ray and lemon sole, however, cancer risks are non-negligible.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trace metals in blood and urine of newborn/mother pairs, adolescents and adults of the Flemish population (2007-2011).
Willy Baeyens,Jan Vrijens,Yue Gao,Kim Croes,Greet Schoeters,Elly Den Hond,Isabelle Sioen,Liesbeth Bruckers,Tim S. Nawrot,Vera Nelen,Els Van Den Mieroop,Bert Morrens,Ilse Loots,Nicolas Van Larebeke,Martine Leermakers +14 more
TL;DR: With the exception of Pb, all trace elements increased with increasing age group population, and showed that the levels of Cd and Pb in blood for this campaign were lower compared to the first campaign, indicating a decrease over time.
