TL;DR: In this article, the main drivers and barriers of sustainable design and construction in the US construction industry were identified and prioritized using a survey research method using the survey instrument developed by the authors.
Abstract: Sustainability in the built environment is becoming a strong force in the construction industry to achieve social and environmental benefits and to lower negative environment impacts. The research objectives of this study were to identify the main drivers and barriers of sustainable design and construction in the US construction industry and to prioritise the identified drivers and barriers with respect to implementation of sustainability in the construction industry. To achieve the research objectives, this study identified the main drivers and barriers of sustainable design and construction factors with a two-step process, including an in-depth literature review and an experts' review. The identified drivers and barriers were then prioritised using a survey research method using a survey instrument developed by the authors. The sample used in the survey was comprised of members in the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) North Carolina (NC) Triangle Chapter. USGBC NC Triangle Chapter members wer...

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors conducted a research on decoupling relationship between economic growth and carbon emission of transportation in Jiangsu Province with consideration of electricity, and the results showed that the amount of carbon emission by electric power is significant, which makes no difference on the overall decoupled states with an obvious periodical characteristic of Weak Decoupling (Expansive Coupling)-expansive negative decouplings-Weak Decouplings).

TL;DR: The result of a numerical example indicates that the modified GM(1,1) model can obtain a better prediction performance than that from the original GM( 1,1), and can express the principle of new information priority emphasized on in grey systems theory fully.
Abstract: We propose a novel approach to improve prediction accuracy of GM(1,1) model through optimization of the initial condition in this paper. The new initial condition is comprised of the first item and the last item of a sequence generated from applying the first-order accumulative generation operator on the sequence of raw data. Weighted coefficients of the first item and the last item in the combination as the initial condition are derived from a method of minimizing error summation of square. We can actually find that the newly modified GM(1,1) model is an extension of the original GM(1,1) model and another modified model which takes the last item in the generated sequence as the initial condition when weighted coefficients takes distinctly specific values. The new optimized initial condition can express the principle of new information priority emphasized on in grey systems theory fully. The result of a numerical example indicates that the modified GM(1,1) model presented in this paper can obtain a better prediction performance than that from the original GM(1,1) model.

TL;DR: In this article, a new method for exact analytical calculation of the accessible surface areas and their gradients with respect to atomic coordinates is described, which finds solvent-exposed vertices of intersecting atoms, and thereby avoids calculating buried vertices which are not needed to determine the surface area by the Gauss)Bonnet theorem.
Abstract: A new method for exact analytical calculation of the accessible surface areas and their gradients with respect to atomic coordinates is described. The new surface routine, GETAREA, finds solvent-exposed vertices of intersecting atoms, and thereby avoids calculating buried vertices which are not needed to determine the accessible surface area by the Gauss)Bonnet theorem. The surface routine was implemented in FANTOM, a program for energy minimization and Monte Carlo simulation, and tested for accuracy and efficiency in extensive energy minimizations of Met-enkephalin, the a-amylase inhibitor . tendamistat, and avian pancreatic polypeptide APP . The CPU time for the exact calculation of the accessible surface areas and their gradients has been . . reduced by factors of 2.2 Met-enkephalin and 3.2 tendamistat compared with our previous approach. The efficiency of our exact method is similar to the recently described approximate methods MSEED and SASAD. The performance of several atomic solvation parameter sets was tested in searches for low energy conformations of APP among conformations near the native X-ray crystal structure and highly distorted structures. The protein solvation parameters from w . x

TL;DR: The aim of this review article is to provide a comprehensive overview of advances achieved in the field of atomistic processes, phase transformations, simple and multicomponent nanosystems and peculiarities of mechanochemistry.
Abstract: The aim of this review article on recent developments of mechanochemistry (nowadays established as a part of chemistry) is to provide a comprehensive overview of advances achieved in the field of atomistic processes, phase transformations, simple and multicomponent nanosystems and peculiarities of mechanochemical reactions. Industrial aspects with successful penetration into fields like materials engineering, heterogeneous catalysis and extractive metallurgy are also reviewed. The hallmarks of mechanochemistry include influencing reactivity of solids by the presence of solid-state defects, interphases and relaxation phenomena, enabling processes to take place under non-equilibrium conditions, creating a well-crystallized core of nanoparticles with disordered near-surface shell regions and performing simple dry time-convenient one-step syntheses. Underlying these hallmarks are technological consequences like preparing new nanomaterials with the desired properties or producing these materials in a reproducible way with high yield and under simple and easy operating conditions. The last but not least hallmark is enabling work under environmentally friendly and essentially waste-free conditions (822 references).
