Journal ArticleDOI
Changes in contact patterns shape the dynamics of the COVID-19 outbreak in China.
Juanjuan Zhang,Maria Litvinova,Yuxia Liang,Yan Wang,Wei Wang,Shanlu Zhao,Qianhui Wu,Stefano Merler,Cécile Viboud,Alessandro Vespignani,Alessandro Vespignani,Marco Ajelli,Hongjie Yu +12 more
TL;DR: It is found that social distancing alone, as implemented in China during the outbreak, is sufficient to control COVID-19, and children 0 to 14 years of age are less susceptible to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evolving epidemiology and transmission dynamics of coronavirus disease 2019 outside Hubei province, China: a descriptive and modelling study.
Juanjuan Zhang,Maria Litvinova,Wei Wang,Yan Wang,Xiaowei Deng,Xinghui Chen,Mei Li,Wen Zheng,Lan Yi,Xinhua Chen,Qianhui Wu,Yuxia Liang,Xiling Wang,Juan Yang,Kaiyuan Sun,Ira M. Longini,M. Elizabeth Halloran,M. Elizabeth Halloran,Peng Wu,Benjamin J. Cowling,Stefano Merler,Cécile Viboud,Alessandro Vespignani,Alessandro Vespignani,Marco Ajelli,Hongjie Yu +25 more
TL;DR: The findings indicate that strict containment, movement restrictions, and increased awareness of the population have contributed to interrupt transmission of SARS-CoV-2 outside Hubei, and an early peak of infectiousness, with possible transmission before the onset of symptoms is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modeling transmission of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron in China
Jun Cai,Xiaowei Deng,Jun Yang,Kaiyuan Sun,Hengcong Liu,Zhiyuan Chen,C. Peng,Xinhua Chen,Qianhui Wu,Junyi Zou,Ruilin Sun,Wen Zheng,Zeyao Zhao,Wanying Lu,Yuxia Liang,Xiaoyu Zhou,Marco Ajelli,Hongjie Yu Yu +17 more
TL;DR: It is found that the level of immunity induced by the March 2022 vaccination campaign would be insufficient to prevent an Omicron wave that would result in exceeding critical care capacity and causing approximately 1.55 million deaths, but it is estimated that protecting vulnerable individuals by ensuring accessibility to vaccines and antiviral therapies, and maintaining implementation of nonpharmaceutical interventions could be sufficient to prevent overwhelming the healthcare system.

Psychological responses, behavioral changes and public perceptions during the early phase of the COVID-19 outbreak in China: a population based cross-sectional survey
TL;DR: Psychological and behavioral responses to COVID-19 have been dramatic during the rising phase of the outbreak and support efforts for timely dissemination of accurate and reliable information to address the high anxiety level.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anxiety levels, precautionary behaviours and public perceptions during the early phase of the COVID-19 outbreak in China: a population-based cross-sectional survey.
TL;DR: Prevalence of moderate or severe anxiety and strict personal precautionary behaviours was generally high, regardless of the quarantine status, and support efforts for handwashing education programmes with a focus on hygiene procedures in China and timely dissemination of reliable information.
