Areal distribution and precipitation–altitude relationship of heavy short-term precipitation in the Czech Republic in the warm part of the year

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented an analysis of heavy short-term precipitation for the warm part of the year in the Czech Republic (CR) for the years 2002-2007 with a horizontal resolution of 1 km and a temporal resolution of one hour.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assimilation of extrapolated radar reflectivity into a NWP model and its impact on a precipitation forecast at high resolution

Zbyněk Sokol
- 01 May 2011 -
TL;DR: In this article, the COSMO NWP model is applied, and radar reflectivity data are assimilated using a water vapour correction method to improve very short range precipitation forecasts in the summer season.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of an assimilation of radar and satellite data on a very-short range forecast of heavy convective rainfalls

Zbyněk Sokol
- 01 Jul 2009 -
TL;DR: In this paper, an assimilation method of radar reflectivity and satellite data into a NWP model COSMO with a horizontal resolution of 2.8 km and its impact on a very short range forecast of precipitation is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Role of Weather Radar in Rainfall Estimation and Its Application in Meteorological and Hydrological Modelling—A Review

TL;DR: In this paper, a comprehensive review through a categorization of radar-related topics aims to provide a general picture of the current state of radar research, and concludes of the most relevant challenges that need to be addressed and recommendations for further research.
Journal ArticleDOI

A comparison of the flood precipitation episode in August 2002 with historic extreme precipitation events on the Czech territory

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the hydrometeorological characteristics of the flood from August 2002, which affected a great part of the Czech territory, particularly the Vltava and Labe river basin, were compared with corresponding conditions during similar flood events in the summer seasons of 1997, 1890, 1897 and 1903.
