TL;DR: In this article, a thin film of carbonfluorine was deposited on the surfaces of aligned carbon nanotubes using a plasma polymerization treatment, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy images revealed that the thin film was uniformly deposited.
Abstract: The thin film of carbonfluorine was deposited on the surfaces of aligned carbon nanotubes using a plasma polymerization treatment. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy images revealed that a thin film of the polymer layer (20nm) was uniformly deposited on the surfaces of the aligned carbon nanotubes. Time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared experiments identified the carbonfluorine thin films on the carbon nanotubes. The plasma deposition mechanism is discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the growth of epitaxial Cr-doped (Tl,Bi)-1212 films on LaAlO3 substrates by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and post-deposition annealing in static air has been achieved.
Abstract: Growth of epitaxial Cr-doped (Tl,Bi)-1212 films on LaAlO3 substrates by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and post-deposition annealing in static air has been achieved. The films exhibit a high transport Jc of over 1.5 × 106 A cm-2 at 77 K and self-field. Tc values measured by the four-probe method are in the range 94-100 K. ICP emission spectroscopy measurement shows a thallium deficiency, with about 0.15 atom bismuth per formula in the film. XRD -2 , and scans show that the dominant phase is 1212, with excellent epitaxy. The film surface has typical PLD morphology as analysed by SEM. TEM analysis found some inclusions in the film, and HREM found that three 1201 layers exist between the interface of 1212 phase and substrate.

TL;DR: In this paper, a perforated metallic film, with subwavelength perforation dimensions and spacing, deposited on a substrate with a sufficiently large dielectric constant, can develop a broad-band frequency window where the transmittance of light into the substrate becomes essentially equal to that in the film absence.
Abstract: We demonstrate through simulations and experiments that a perforated metallic film, with subwavelength perforation dimensions and spacing, deposited on a substrate with a sufficiently large dielectric constant, can develop a broad-band frequency window where the transmittance of light into the substrate becomes essentially equal to that in the film absence. We show that the location of this broad-band extraordinary optical transmission window can be engineered in a wide frequency range (from IR to UV), by varying the geometry and the material of the perforated film as well as the dielectric constant of the substrate. This effect could be useful in the development of transparent conducting electrodes for various photonic and photovoltaic devices.

TL;DR: In this paper, a binder-free cactus-like nanostructure CoNiO2@Co3O4@Co2N grown on reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-wrapped nickel foam, in which the N-doped rGO sheet acts as the ground, providing active sites for the composite to grow, and the nickel foam acts as a root system, providing both Ni ions to form the bimetal oxide Co NiO2 and storage for the electrolyte ions, was designed.

TL;DR: In this article, a quad-band solar spectral splitter incorporating the properties of the optical filter and the spectrally selective solar thermal absorber can direct PV band to PV modules and absorb thermal band energy for thermal process with low thermal losses.
Abstract: The promising quad-band solar spectral splitter incorporates the properties of the optical filter and the spectrally selective solar thermal absorber can direct PV band to PV modules and absorb thermal band energy for thermal process with low thermal losses. It provides a new strategy for spectral splitting and offers potential ways for hybrid PVT system design.

TL;DR: There is, I think, something ethereal about i —the square root of minus one, which seems an odd beast at that time—an intruder hovering on the edge of reality.
Abstract: There is, I think, something ethereal about i —the square root of minus one. I remember first hearing about it at school. It seemed an odd beast at that time—an intruder hovering on the edge of reality. Usually familiarity dulls this sense of the bizarre, but in the case of i it was the reverse: over the years the sense of its surreal nature intensified. It seemed that it was impossible to write mathematics that described the real world in …

Abstract: Many potential applications have been proposed for carbon nanotubes, including conductive and high-strength composites; energy storage and energy conversion devices; sensors; field emission displays and radiation sources; hydrogen storage media; and nanometer-sized semiconductor devices, probes, and interconnects. Some of these applications are now realized in products. Others are demonstrated in early to advanced devices, and one, hydrogen storage, is clouded by controversy. Nanotube cost, polydispersity in nanotube type, and limitations in processing and assembly methods are important barriers for some applications of single-walled nanotubes.
