TL;DR: A PV panel model is built and tested, which is able to predict the panel behavior in different temperature and irradiance conditions, based on the single-diode five-parameters model.
Abstract: This work presents the construction of a model for a PV panel using the single-diode five-parameters model, based exclusively on data-sheet parameters. The model takes into account the series and parallel (shunt) resistance of the panel. The equivalent circuit and the basic equations of the PV cell/panel in Standard Test Conditions (STC)1 are shown, as well as the parameters extraction from the data-sheet values. The temperature dependence of the cell dark saturation current is expressed with an alternative formula, which gives better correlation with the datasheet values of the power temperature dependence. Based on these equations, a PV panel model, which is able to predict the panel behavior in different temperature and irradiance conditions, is built and tested.

TL;DR: In this paper, the suitability of multilevel voltage source inverters for single-phase grid connected photovoltaic systems is investigated regarding issues such as component count and stress, system power rating, and the influence of the PV array earth capacitance.
Abstract: Multilevel voltage source inverters offer several advantages compared to their conventional counterparts. By synthesising the AC output terminal voltage from several levels of voltages, staircase waveforms can be produced, which approach the sinusoidal waveform with low harmonic distortion, thus reducing filter requirements. The need of several sources on the DC side of the converter makes multilevel technology attractive for photovoltaic applications. This paper provides an overview an different multilevel topologies and investigates their suitability for single-phase grid connected photovoltaic systems. Several transformerless photovoltaic systems incorporating multilevel converters are compared regarding issues such as component count and stress, system power rating and the influence of the photovoltaic array earth capacitance.

TL;DR: In this article, a single-phase inverter for distributed generation systems requiring power quality features, such as harmonic and reactive power compensation for grid-connected operation, is proposed, where the inverter controls the active power flow from the renewable energy source to the grid and also performs the nonlinear load current harmonic compensation keeping the grid current almost sinusoidal.
Abstract: Power electronic converters are commonly used for interfacing distributed generation systems to the electrical power network. This paper deals with a single-phase inverter for distributed generation systems requiring power quality features, such as harmonic and reactive power compensation for grid-connected operation. The idea is to integrate the DG unit functions with shunt active power filter capabilities. With the proposed approach, the inverter controls the active power flow from the renewable energy source to the grid and also performs the non-linear load current harmonic compensation keeping the grid current almost sinusoidal. The control scheme employs a current reference generator based on Sinusoidal Signal Integrator (SSI) and Instantaneous Reactive Power (IRP) theory together with a repetitive current controller. Experimental results obtained on a 4 kVA inverter prototype demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed solution.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a planning tool and model for the integration of distributed energy storage systems into the electrical supply system, including intelligent control and advanced power electronics conversion systems.
Abstract: Distributed energy storage systems in combination with advanced power electronics have a great technical role to play and will have a huge impact on future electrical supply systems and lead to many financial benefits. So far, when Energy storage systems (ESSs) are integrated into conventional electric grids, special designed topologies and/or control for almost each particular case is required. This means costly design and debugging time of each individual component/control system every time the utility decides to add an energy storage system. However, our present and future power network situation requires extra flexibility in the integration more than ever. Mainly for small and medium storage systems in both (customers and suppliers) side as the storage moves from central generation to distributed one (including intelligent control and advanced power electronics conversion systems). Nevertheless, storage devices, standardized architectures and techniques for distributed intelligence and smart power systems as well as planning tools and models to aid the integration of energy storage systems are still lagging behind.
