TL;DR: This algorithm is shown to be a better interpretation of continuous PSO into discrete PSO than the older versions and a number of benchmark optimization problems are solved using this concept and quite satisfactory results are obtained.
Abstract: Particle swarm optimization (PSO) as a novel computational intelligence technique, has succeeded in many continuous problems. But in discrete or binary version there are still some difficulties. In this paper a novel binary PSO is proposed. This algorithm proposes a new definition for the velocity vector of binary PSO. It will be shown that this algorithm is a better interpretation of continuous PSO into discrete PSO than the older versions. Also a number of benchmark optimization problems are solved using this concept and quite satisfactory results are obtained.

Abstract: Control allocation problems for marine vessels can be formulated as optimization problems, where the objective typically is to minimize the use of control effort (or power) subject to actuator rate and position constraints, power constraints as well as other operational constraints. In addition, singularity avoidance for vessels with azimuthing thrusters represent a challenging problem since a non-convex nonlinear program must be solved. This is useful to avoid temporarily loss of controllability in some cases. In this paper, a survey of control allocation methods for overactuated vessels are presented.

Abstract: Much emphasis has been placed on over-actuated systems for air vehicles. Over-actuating an air vehicle provides a certain amount of redundancy for the flight control system, thus potentially allowing for recovery from off-nominal conditions. Due to this redundancy, control allocation algorithms are typically utilized to compute a unique solution to the over-actuated problem. Control allocators compute the commands that are applied to the actuators so that a certain set of forces or moments are generated by the control effectors. Usually, control allocation problems are formulated as optimization problems so that all of the available degrees of freedom can be utilized and, when sufficient control power exists, secondary objectives can be achieved. In this work, a survey of control allocation techniques will be given.

Abstract: We are presenting new and efficient methods for numerical differentiation, i.e., for estimating derivatives of a noisy time signal. They are illustrated, via convincing numerical simulations, by the analysis of an academic signal and by the feedback control of a nonlinear system.

Abstract: Intelligent PID controllers, or i-PID controllers, are PID controllers where the unknown parts of the plant, which might be highly nonlinear and/or time-varying, are taken into account without any modeling procedure. Our main tool is an online numerical differentiator, which is based on easily implementable fast estimation and identification techniques. Several numerical experiments demonstrate the efficiency of our method when compared to more classic PID regulators.
