The purpose of this paper is to review the literature on just-in-time (JIT) and to present a general survey of JIT implementation practices adopted by the manufacturing organisations. A fuzzy decision-making model for risk ranking with an application to an onshore gas refinery
Sadoullah Ebrahimnejad1, S. Meysam Mousavi1, S. Mohammad H. Mojtahedi1

Risks are prioritised on the basis of the significance of impacts on typical project objectives in terms of cost, time, quality, safety and environmental sustainability. Then, this problem is defined in the Fuzzy Multicriteria Decision-Making (FMCDM) field. The Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (FTOPSIS) and Fuzzy Linear Programming Technique for Multidimensional Analysis of Preference (FLINMAP) methods are presented to rank the high risks. These two FMCDM modelling mechanisms are compared to find the better performance in project risk ranking. Moreover, a case study was conducted on the procedure of the proposed model and the results indicate that fuzzy LINMAP outperforms fuzzy TOPSIS. Therefore, the ranks of risks differ from one MCDM model to another. The selection of a proper MCDM model for risk ranking depends on the project's nature, the accuracy of data gathered on risk and experience. read more read less

One of the major objectives of Indian banking sector reforms was to encourage operational self-sufficiency, flexibility and competition in the system and to increase the banking standards in India to the international best practices. The second phase of reforms began in 1997 with aim to reorganisation measures, human capital development, technological up-gradation, structural development which helped them for achieving universal benchmarks in terms of prudential norms and pre-eminent practices. This paper seeks to determine the impact of various market and regulatory initiatives on efficiency improvements of Indian banks. Efficiency of firm is measured in terms of its relative performance that is, efficiency of a firm relative to the efficiencies of firms in a sample. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) has used to identify banks that are on the output frontier given the various inputs at their disposal. The present study is confined only to the constant-returns-to-scale (CRS) assumption of decision making units (DMUs). Variable-returns-to-scale (VRS) assumption for estimating the efficiency was not attempted. It was found from the results that national banks, new private banks and foreign banks have showed high efficiency over a period time than remaining banks. read more read less

The overwhelming humanitarian impact of the January 2010 Earthquake in Haiti created a tremendous coordination challenge for the humanitarian relief agencies. In this paper, we first describe the coordination mechanisms that are implemented by the United Nations and the role of its Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). We introduce the cluster approach, which is instrumental in providing a more efficient and effective coordination in affected disaster areas. The main thrust of our paper is on the role and use of information management (IM) in these coordination efforts. To understand better the benefits and problems of information systems, we conducted interviews with experienced information managers who participated in the Haiti relief effort. While the interviewees saw clear benefits of IM for the coordination of humanitarian relief, concerns related to information overload, reliability and accountability were found to impede the realisation of the full potential of IM. read more read less
