Abstract: Approaches of automated evaluation of electromagnetic material parameters have received a lot of attention in the literature. Among others, one method is to retrieve the material parameters from the reflection and transmission measurements of the sample material. Compared to other methods, this is a rather wideband method, but suffers from an intrinsic limitation related to the electrical thickness of the measured material. In this letter, we propose a novel way to overcome this limitation. Although being based on the classical Nicolson-Ross-Weir (NRW) technique, the proposed extraction technique does not involve any branch seeking and is therefore capable of extracting material parameters from samples thicker than λ/2, a measure that would otherwise cause problems in the NRW extraction technique. The proposed derivative of the NRW extraction technique is then used to study the effect of thermal noise on the extracted material parameters.

Abstract: Purpose – The object of this paper is to help to understand what it is all about in question when talking about personalization.Design/methodology/approach – A conceptual framework of personalization is presented, based on the literature.Findings – Marketers are looking increasingly at personalization to help them improve the performance of their efforts. However, personalization seems to be hard to apply. Some of these problems are caused by the fact that personalization means something different to each business and to the different actors in the value chain. This lack of agreement regarding the meaning of personalization limits successful communication between the different actors who produce or buy services and products that are connection with personalized marketing. This hinders co‐operation between service providers and marketers who are willing to apply personalization.Originality/value – It is hoped that the framework is useful when discussing and developing the idea of personalization further.

Abstract: Large-area graphene substrates provide a promising lab bench for synthesizing, manipulating, and characterizing low-dimensional materials, opening the door to high-resolution analyses of novel structures, such as two-dimensional (2D) glasses, that cannot be exfoliated and may not occur naturally. Here, we report the accidental discovery of a 2D silica glass supported on graphene. The 2D nature of this material enables the first atomic resolution transmission electron microscopy of a glass, producing images that strikingly resemble Zachariasen's original 1932 cartoon models of 2D continuous random network glasses. Atomic-resolution electron spectroscopy identifies the glass as SiO2 formed from a bilayer of (SiO4) 2− tetrahedra and without detectable covalent bonding to the graphene. From these images, we directly obtain ring statistics and pair distribution functions that span short-, medium-, and long-range order. Ab initio calculations indicate that van der Waals interactions with graphene energetically stabilizes the 2D structure with respect to bulk SiO2. These results demonstrate a new class of 2D glasses that can be applied in layered graphene devices and studied at the atomic scale.
