TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined qualitative and quantitative characteristics of foraminiferal species within the inferred paleotsunami deposits of southwestern Andaman Island using sediment samples from six geoslice sections up to a depth of ∼2.5m.
Abstract: Quantitative and qualitative characteristics of foraminiferal species within the inferred paleotsunami deposits of southwestern Andaman Island were examined using sediment samples from six geoslice sections up to a depth of ∼2.5m. In this study, it is considered that the foraminiferal assemblages of the 2004 tsunami deposit (Unit b) as a modern analogue to trace similar events in the geological past. Paleontological and quantitative data analysis suggests 2 biofacies in the stratigraphy. Biofacies I is indicative of a subtidal sediment provenance and its mixing with intertidal sediments due to the tsunami, whereas, Biofacies II is an intertidal/marshy sediment provenance/environment. Foraminiferal tests >180µm in dimension in the tsunami facies (Biofacies I) show abrasion marks, which otherwise show high preservation potential than the pre-tsunami (Biofacies II) that indicates high dissolution activity and low preservation potential. Based on these inferences, 4 tsunami zones, 4 marsh zones, and 1 basin filling zone was elucidated in the stratigraphical column. In order to refine the chronostratigraphy of this area, the contemporaneous foraminifera recovered from a 15cm thick paleotsunami deposit (Unit g) were dated using 14C accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). The AMS age suggests that AD 1005–1190 was the predecessor of 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake (Mw 9.3) and associated Indian Ocean tsunami.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the effect of firm attributes on financial reporting quality of listed consumer goods companies in Nigeria from 2008 -2017, and found that profitability, board composition, profitability, and firm growth were proxies for firm's attributes.
Abstract: This study investigated the effect of firm attributes on financial reporting quality of listed consumer goods companies in Nigeria from 2008 -2017. Financial reporting quality is likely to be influenced by their structure, monitoring and performance characteristics. Firm size, board composition, profitability and firm growth were selected as proxies for firm’s attributes. Financial reporting quality was measured by the modified model of Jones (1991). Panel multiple regressions were employed to test the formulated hypotheses and provide answers to the research questions. The result reveals profitability, board composition and firm growth to be statistically significant with financial reporting quality while firm size is statistically insignificant. Three variables, board composition, profitability and firm growth increases the quality financial information of the listed consumer goods companies in Nigeria, meanwhile, firm size has proven to reduce the quality of their financial reports.

TL;DR: In this paper, the symbolic motifs on modern thrones in Anambra State of Nigeria were examined. But, the authors focused on the symbolic meaning of symbols on the thrones and not on the individual symbols.
Abstract: This paper takes up the issue of the essence of symbols on Igbo modern thrones. Our attention therefore centre on the symbolic motifs on Igbo modern thrones in Anambra State of Nigeria. It pays a particular attention on the modern thrones in Onitsha, Awka and Nri which statistics show have modern throne with hybrid symbolism. The study begins with the classification of motifs on the artifacts of our study. It went further to interpret the individual symbols as well as providing the iconographic and functional analysis of the interpreted motifs in the peoples context using field information to cross-check the available literature. Photographs of the thrones and their associated symbolic motifs were provided. The study aimed at unavailing the Igbo ideology of symbolism in the presence of modernization in their use and choice of symbols. It also showed a shift and elaboration of symbolism as a result of change in ideology, occupation and general world view. We high-lightened the existence of incorporation of new found motifs, functions and meanings and the individual reaction of them in view of leadership and governance. This exercise, noted that all forms of symbolic motifs around the thrones underscore historical facts. While some reflect the modern trend in Igbo land, others maintain the strength of tradition. Christian motifs and some emblems on the thrones reveal the impact of Christianity in Igbo culture, others serve as a reflection of modern concept of power with its political shift and values. The compressed and ideological statements of the symbolism gave the thrones and their occupier greater power than are lodged on a mere sitting material and an ordinary person. TL;DR: A study on knowledge, attitudes and practices against malaria was conducted among residents of Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Nigeria to describe the knowledge and practices on malaria among residents.
Abstract: A study on knowledge, attitudes and practices against malaria was conducted among residents of Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Nigeria to describe the knowledge and practices on malaria among residents. Four hundred structured questionnaires were administered to participating households. The results show that, all respondents had heard of malaria. Knowledge of malaria cause and transmission was low, as only 0.5% of respondents identified plasmodium parasite as the cause as ell only 2.0% said malaria is transmitted by infected female Anopheles mosquito. Respondents’ knowledge of signs and symptoms was high as majority could identify: fever/hotness of body (90.0), headache (62.0%), vomiting (39.8%), body weakness (28.0%), shivering (23.5%) and loss of appetite (18.5%). Also respondent’s knowledge of mosquito behaviour and breeding site was high well. Latrine/toilets (76.3%), tall grasses and bushes (75.3%), stagnant water (62.3%) were the most frequently mentioned breeding sites. knowledge of preventive measures against malaria through the use of bed nets as the most effective means of preventing mosquito bites was high among respondents as 69.5% reported ownership of bed nets. These might have been the reason for majority of respondents who indicated that they or their family members sleep under treat bed nets every night. Respondents show good treatment seeking practices as majority of them report immediately to the available health facility when the notice symptoms of malaria. Educating the public on proper and regular use of treated nets will help in reducing the suffering from malaria which is the major reason for hospital visits.
