TL;DR: This article examined how social dominance orientation (SDO) and right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) were related to two different forms of prejudice against working women: employment skepticism and traditional role preference.
Abstract: This study examined how social dominance orientation (SDO) and right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) were related to two different forms of prejudice against working women: employment skepticism and traditional role preference. Three hundred forty-nine American adults completed measures of SDO, RWA, employment skepticism, traditional role preference, hostile sexism, and benevolent sexism. Multiple regression analyses revealed that SDO accounted for significant variability in both employment skepticism and traditional role preference, and that RWA accounted for significant variability in traditional role preference. Mediational analyses suggested that hostile sexism attenuated the relationship between SDO and employment skepticism, and benevolent sexism attenuated the relationship between RWA and traditional role preference. Results are discussed with respect to different forms of prejudice against working women and how each one might be rooted in different ideological preferences.

TL;DR: Based on analysis of video records of three mating events involving nine free-living whitetip reef sharks in Cocos Islands, Costa Rica, the siphon sacs appear to be used to propel sperm into the female's reproductive tract, not for flushing the females' reproductive tract of sperm from previous males.

TL;DR: There are large interactions among the different combinations of display parameters that can reliably elicit a perceptually compelling impression of a solid object rotating rigidly in three-dimensional space.
Abstract: Several experiments were performed in an effort to determine the different combinations of display parameters that can reliably elicit a perceptually compelling impression of a solid object rotating rigidly in three-dimensional space. All of the displays were computer-generated simulations of rigid objects rotating in depth under parallel projection. The parameters investigated included the number of frames in the apparent motion sequence, the temporal and spatial displacements between frames, the number of elements in the depicted object, and the structural organization of those elements. The results indicated that there are large interactions among these different parameters in their effects on the perception of structure from motion.

TL;DR: In this article, a combination of thermogravimetric and spectroscopic methods was used to characterize the carbon microsphere and nanoparticle surfaces following the synthesis of nanoparticles using coffee as a biogenic reductant.
Abstract: The optical and catalytic properties of metal nanoparticles have attracted significant attention for applications in a wide variety of fields, thus prompting interest in developing sustainable synthetic strategies that leverage the redox properties of natural compounds or extracts. Here, we investigate the surface chemistry of nanoparticles synthesized using coffee as a biogenic reductant. Building on our previously developed synthetic protocols for the preparation of silver and palladium nanoparticle/carbon composite microspheres, a combination of thermogravimetric and spectroscopic methods was used to characterize the carbon microsphere and nanoparticle surfaces. Infrared reflectance spectroscopy and single particle surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy were used to characterize Pd and Ag metal surfaces, respectively, following synthesis. Strongly adsorbed organic layers were found to be present at metal nanoparticle surfaces after synthesis. The catalytic activity of Pd nanoparticles in hydrogenation rea...
