TL;DR: An information system for automatically providing mobile vehicles with information related to their geographical location and to provide routing control information downloaded from a broadcasting or directed cellular call source includes a GPS receiver and associated data storage unit as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: An information system for automatically providing mobile vehicles with information related to their geographical location and to provide routing control information downloaded from a broadcasting or directed cellular call source includes a GPS receiver and associated data storage unit. A cellular packet data receiver is included to receive data with location markers from a transmission source. The data from the data storage unit and the received data with location markers is coupled to a controller module which includes stored program controls to select data relevant to the present geographical location and to provide centralized alerts and local readout in the mobile vehicle of this information.

TL;DR: In this paper, thermal imaging is used to pattern a range of organic materials at high speed over large areas with micron size resolution and excellent electrical performance avoiding the solvent compatibility issues currently faced by alternative techniques.
Abstract: We show here that thermal imaging, a nonlithographic technique which enables printing multiple, successive layers via a dry additive process can be used in combination with tailored printable conductors in the fabrication of organic electronic devices. This method is capable of patterning a range of organic materials at high speed over large areas with micron size resolution and excellent electrical performance avoiding the solvent compatibility issues currently faced by alternative techniques. Such a dry, potentially reel-to-reel printing method may provide a practical route to realizing the expected benefits of plastics for electronics. We illustrate the viability of thermal imaging and imageable organics conductors by printing a functioning, large area (4000 cm2) active matrix backplane display circuit containing several thousand transistors.

TL;DR: In this article, a duplex radio communication system includes an Interrogator which generates a first modulated signal by modulating a first information signal onto a radio carrier signal, and a Backscatter Modulator uses a second information signal to modulate the reflection of the first modulating signal from the Antenna, the reflected signal being a second modulated message.
Abstract: A duplex radio communication system includes an Interrogator which generates a first modulated signal by modulating a first information signal onto a radio carrier signal. The Interrogator transmits the first modulated signal to at least one remote Tag of the system. The remote Tag receives and processes the first modulated signal received at its Antenna. A Backscatter Modulator uses a second information signal to modulate the reflection of the first modulated signal from the Antenna, the reflected signal being a second modulated signal. The Interrogator receives and demodulates the second modulated signal to obtain the second information signal.

TL;DR: In this article, an equation for the current density based on a tight-binding approximation is proposed to obtain a quasi-equilibrium between the population of the injector ground state and that of the excited state of the laser transition characterized by a common quasi-Fermi level.
Abstract: Experimental evidence that in quantum cascade lasers electron injection into the active region is controlled by resonant tunneling between two-dimensional subbands is discussed. A quantitative analysis is carried out using an equation for the current density based on a tight-binding approximation. Electron injection into the active region is optimized when the current density is limited by the lifetime of the excited state of the laser transition. In this regime, quasi-equilibrium is reached between the population of the injector ground state and that of the excited state of the laser transition characterized by a common quasi-Fermi level. The design of the injector depends on the selected laser active region; in particular, the choice of physical parameters, such as doping concentration and injection barrier thicknesses, is in general different for vertical or diagonal transition lasers. The paper concludes with an investigation of the transport properties at threshold and its dependence on stimulated emission; a relationship between the differential resistance above threshold and the value of the slope efficiency is deduced.
