TL;DR: Simple techniques are presented for performing digital predistortion by use of look-up tables and adaptive indexing is introduced which allow the various techniques to adapt to changing signal and power amplifier characteristics.
Abstract: Simple techniques are presented for performing digital predistortion by use of look-up tables. Performance is measured by the traditional spectral regrowth analysis which quantifies the out-of-band distortion. Also included in the performance evaluation is constellation distortion which quantifies the in-band distortion which is important for bit error rate (BER) performance. As an added performance measure, predistortion is also analyzed with respect to its effect on amplifier efficiency. A nonuniform spacing technique is described which is simple to implement and has a performance very close to the cited optimum approach. In addition, scaling the gain of these tables provides further improvement in terms of correction and efficiency performance. Finally, adaptive indexing is introduced. These algorithms allow the various techniques to adapt to changing signal and power amplifier characteristics.

TL;DR: The large magnetocapacitance near the transition temperature in the ferromagnet SeCuO3 suggests routes to enhancing the magnetodielectric response for practical applications.
Abstract: We report on the effects of spin fluctuations, magnetic ordering, and external magnetic field on the dielectric constant of the ferromagnet SeCuO3, and the antiferromagnet TeCuO3. A model based on the coupling between uniform polarization and the q-dependent spin-spin correlation function is presented to explain the different behaviors for these isostructural compounds. The large magnetocapacitance near the transition temperature in the ferromagnet SeCuO3 suggests routes to enhancing the magnetodielectric response for practical applications.

TL;DR: A perceptually based system for pattern retrieval and matching that detects basic visual categories that people use in their judgment of similarity, and design a computational model that accepts patterns as input and produces a set of choices that follow human behavior in pattern matching.
Abstract: Proposes a perceptually based system for pattern retrieval and matching. The central idea is that similarity judgment has to be modeled along perceptual dimensions. Hence, we detect basic visual categories that people use in their judgment of similarity, and design a computational model that accepts patterns as input and, depending on the query, produces a set of choices that follow human behavior in pattern matching. There are two major research aspects to our work. The first one addresses the issue of how humans perceive and measure similarity within the domain of color patterns. To understand and describe this mechanism, we performed a subjective experiment which yielded five perceptual criteria used in comparison between color patterns (vocabulary), as well as a set of rules governing the use of these criteria in similarity judgment (grammar). The second research aspect is the implementation of the perceptual criteria and rules in an image retrieval system. Following the processing typical for human vision, we design a system to: (1) extract perceptual features from the vocabulary and (2) perform the comparison between the patterns according to the grammar rules. The modeling of human perception of color patterns is new - starting with a new color codebook design, compact color representation, and texture description through multi-scale edge distribution along different directions. Moreover, we propose new color and texture distance functions that correlate with human performance. The performance of the system is illustrated with numerous examples from image databases from different application domains.

03 Feb 1998TL;DR: In this article, a weighted fair-queue scheduler is proposed for routing packets in a communication network comprising a plurality of per-connection queues, each queue established for receiving packets from a respective source and temporarily storing received packets before routing to a particular destination.
Abstract: Apparatus for routing packets in a communication network comprises a plurality of per-connection queues, each queue established for receiving packets from a respective source and temporarily storing received packets before routing to a particular destination; a weighted fair-queuing scheduler for servicing packets from each of the plurality of per-connection queues at guaranteed pre-allocated rates; a sensing device for sensing a presence or absence of packets in queues, the absence of packets in queues indicating availability of excess bandwidth; and, a state dependent scheduler for redistributing excess bandwidth upon sensing of queues absent packets, the state dependent scheduler servicing those queues in accordance with a state variable corresponding to a performance property of the queues, wherein delay and isolation properties for routing packets of respective queues in weighted fair-queuing is preserved.

01 Oct 1996TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed the performance of waveguide grating routers and Fourier filters and found that the good performance was due to the high degree of path delay and coupler control achievable by and processing in this technology.
Abstract: Silica-based integrated optical waveguide technology is reviewed. Low loss and manufacturable waveguides are made by chemical vapour, flame hydrolysis and electron beam deposition. Fibre to fibre insertion loss is as low as 0.3 dB for a 6 cm long waveguide. Bragg reflective add-drop filters are made with gratings formed by ultraviolet irradiation. The waveguide grating router has found important application as a multiplexer in dense wavelength multiplexed communications systems. Multiplexers with wide pass bands and stop bands are made with Fourier filters: these filters consist of a chain of alternating couplers and delaying arms. The good performance of waveguide grating routers and Fourier filters is due to the high degree of path delay and coupler control achievable by and processing in this technology.
