TL;DR: In this article, the effect of lead and cadmium on the dry matter yield and nutrient concentration of tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum) and egg-plant (Solanum melongena) was studied in a greenhouse experiment.
Abstract: The effect of lead and cadmium on the dry matter yield and nutrient concentration of tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum) and egg-plant (Solanum melongena) was studied in a greenhouse experiment. The results showed some benificial effects of Pb and Cd at their lower doses and toxicity at higher levels. The threshold concentration (C10), toxicity index (T10) and loading rate to produce C10 were also calculated. These values suggested the tomato to be more tolerant than egg-plant for heavy metals whose toxicity was found in the order of Cd>Pb in both the plants. The application of the heavy metals was found to effect the nutrient concentration and their uptake by plants. The results have been explained on the basis of their complexation and translocation through the plant sap.

Abstract: Properties of a finite-range failure-time distribution, that includes the exponential as a particular case, have been studied. The distribution is IFR when the shape parameter exceeds unity, but is IFRA always. For a given value of the shape parameter, the distribution is NBUE over a segment of its range. Estimators of parameters have been derived. Distributions of two-component series, parallel, and standby system lives have also been worked out.

Abstract: A new crystalline inorganic ion-exchanger, Zr(IV) arsenosilicate, has been synthesized and shows high chemical and thermal stability. It is also stable under γ-radiations of moderately high strength. The utility of this material has been demonstrated by achieving quantitative separation of Hg(II) from such other metal ions as Cd(II), Pb(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Al(III), and Fe(III) on its columns. Some silicate rocks have also been analyzed using this material.

TL;DR: In this article, the formation and characterization of water in oil (W/O) microemulsion systems composed of ionic surfactants-water-benzene-n-alcohols (C4 − C8).
Abstract: The present article presents data on the formation and characterization of water in oil (W/O) microemulsion systems composed of ionic surfactants-water-benzene-n-alcohols (C4 – C8). The influence of the alcohol chain length and surfactant concentration, on the formation of microemulsion systems, has been investigated. When the amount of benzene or water was increased, the microemulsion system's appearance changed from clear to bluish to turbid. The transitions were identified on the basis of both visual appearance and specific resistance measurements. A dramatic change in the specific resistance was observed for the transitions. This was rationalized by assuming a change in the water structure from spherical to cylindrical to lamellae type. The critical nwater/noil ratio (Vc), for stable microemulsion system was calculated with the help of viscosity measurements.

TL;DR: In this article, the pre-Siwalik Tertiary rocks of southern Himachal Pradesh are grouped into five distinct lithofacies, which collectively represent a consanguineous association of sediments deposited in related geomorphic environments.
Abstract: The Subathu, Dagshai and Kasauli rocks of Himachal sub Himalaya have been classically interpreted as of marine brackish or lagoonal origin. In this study, the pre-Siwalik Tertiary rocks of southern Himachal Pradesh are grouped into five distinct lithofacies, which collectively represent a consanguineous association of sediments deposited in related geomorphic environments: 1. Fossiliferous green shale, locally red, with lenses of limestone interpreted as tidally influenced shelf deposits; 2. Clean white sandstone interpreted as coastal barrier bars; 3. Red mudstone locally green, and lenses of grey sandstone with channel lag interpreted as lagoonal and tidal flat deposits; 4. Grey sandstone with channel lag and red mudstone and siltstone inferred to have accumulated in distributary channel and inter-distributary plains of fluvio-delta complex; 5. Grey, white sandstone and mudstone interpreted as a mixed assemblage of fluvio-delta and coastal barrier facies. Two systems of currents operated during the deposition of these rocks: one, across the delta plain complex was directed towards south and southwest following the prevailing regional paleoslope; and the other representing longshore currents in adjacent coastal areas operating parallel to shoreline, was directed towards west-northwest.

TL;DR: In this article, a monofunctional weak cation exchanger of tin(IV)-iodophosphate is used for detailed study owing to its highest ion exchange capacity and highest chemical stability.
Abstract: Iodates and iodophosphates of tin(IV), zirconium(IV) and iron(III) have been synthesized under varying conditions and studied their ion exchange behaviour. Among the various ion exchangers synthesized, tin(IV)-iodophosphate is chosen for detailed study owing to its highest ion exchange capacity and highest chemical stability. The most stable sample is prepared by mixing 0.1M stannic chloride, 0.1M potassium iodate and 0.1M potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate solutions in the volume ratio 1:1:2 respectively at pH 0–1. It is a monofunctional weak cation exchanger. Its ion exchange capacity for K+ is 1.6 meq/dry g. The thermal and chemical stabilities of this material have been determined and compared with Zr(IV)-phosphoiodate. Effect of heating on the properties of tin(IV)-iodophosphate has been determined. To explore the separation potential of tin(IV)-iodophosphate Kd values of different metal ions have been determined in organic solvents. A number of important separations of metal ions of indust...

TL;DR: In this article, the electrical conductivities and i.r.d. spectral data indicate a considerable extent of cation-anion interaction and the anion is bonded in a tridentate manner such that it has a reduced Cs symmetry in the molecule.
Abstract: Chlorosulphates of the divalent transition metals Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and CU(II) have been prepared and characterized. The electrical conductivities and i.r. spectral data indicate a considerable extent of cation-anion interaction and the anion is bonded in a tridentate manner such that it has a reduced Cs symmetry in the molecule. The magnetic susceptibility measurements and the ligand field spectroscopic studies are consistent with the octahedral geometry for these salts and indicate the presence of some covalent bonding between the chlorosulphate ion and the metal ion. However, a tetragonal distortion in the geometry has been indicated for the Ni(II) salt. The coordination compounds of the type ML4(SO3Cl)2[L=acetonitrile, pyridine, pyridine N-oxide] and ML2(SO3Cl)2 [L = 2,2′bipyridine, acridine] have also been prepared and characterized. The i.r. and ligand field spectroscopic studies and magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate the presence of a strong interaction between the anion an...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a mathematical model to determine transitional as well as steady state probabilities of various system states in a conveyor-paced assembly line system with the line-conveyor subject to failure and repair.
Abstract: This paper presents a mathematical model to determine transitional as well as steady state probabilities of various system states in a conveyor-paced assembly line system with the line-conveyor subject to failure and repair. The analysis helps to predict the effect of system parameters on labour efficiency, output rate, and system down time. The on-line service time distribution has been taken as general for wider applicability. An optimization problem for a business concern is then formulated taking into account all the relevant economic implications, and solved for a numercial example by STJMT. The profit function is seen to be a concave function with the cost structure as presented here. The results of the numerical example give convincing evidence that, when the problem is seen in totality, neither worker utilization nor output remain the criteria for optimization.

TL;DR: In this paper, electron paramagnetic resonance of Cu 2+ ion in HCOO 2 ·2H 2 O were measured at room temperature and the spectrum was interpreted in terms of Jahn-Teller effect.
Abstract: Electron paramagnetic resonance of Cu 2+ ion in Sr(HCOO) 2 ·2H 2 O were measured at room temperature. The spectrum was interpreted in terms of Jahn-Teller effect. Cu 2+ is found to be incorporated both interstitially and substitutionally. The substitutional Cu 2+ is found to be in nearly cubic environment and \(\varGamma_{5}\) distortion is responsible for Jahn-Teller effect. The interstitial Cu 2+ finds itself in octahedral field which undergoes Jahn-Teller splitting due to \(\varGamma_{3}\) coupling.
