TL;DR: Salicylic acid acts as a potential plant growth regulator and plays an important role in regulating a number of plant physiological and biochemical processes, and the content and yield of artemisinin was positively regulated by the SA.
Abstract: Plant secondary metabolites constitute the most important class of natural products with diverse and valuable chemical properties and biological activities Artemisinin, isolated from Artemisia annua L, is potentially a drug that could be effective against multidrug-resistant strains of the malarial parasite, Plasmodium Salicylic acid (SA) acts as a potential plant growth regulator and plays an important role in regulating a number of plant physiological and biochemical processes The present study was conducted to assess the alterations in plant growth, photosynthetic capacity, enzyme activities, and content and yield of artemisinin in Artemisia annua L in response to foliar application of SA Four levels of SA (000, 025, 050, and 100 mM SA) were applied on the aboveground plant parts Plant height and dry weight were altered significantly as the level of SA increased Besides, application of SA positively improved chlorophyll and carotenoid contents Furthermore, significant enhancement in net photosynthetic rate (317%) and the activity of nitrate reductase (172%) and carbonic anhydrase (109%) was noticed as the level of SA was increased from 000 to 100 mM SA Most importantly, the content and yield of artemisinin was positively regulated by the SA In comparison to no SA application (control), SA at 100 mM increased the content and yield of artemisinin by 258 and 500%, respectively

TL;DR: A new measurement scale was developed by integrating and modifying two existing scales, identified through a literature survey, and validated through the responses of 502 managerial employees from 14 thermal power plants of the largest power company in India.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop an integrated measurement scale for an organizational learning system by capturing the learning enablers, learning results and performance outcome in an organization.Design/methodology/approach – A new measurement scale was developed by integrating and modifying two existing scales, identified through a literature survey. The new scale was validated through the responses of 502 managerial employees from 14 thermal power plants of the largest power company in India.Findings – There were scales, which measure learning enablers or learning achieved or learning in general or the relation between some forms of learning with performance. This study could integrate learning enablers at three levels, learning achieved at three levels, and the organizational outcome in the form of performance in a single scale.Research limitations/implications – The research study took place within the largest organization in one industry to control for potential industry effects a...

TL;DR: The reactor filled with crosslinked Con A-cellulose adsorbed β galactosidase could be successfully employed for the continuous hydrolysis of lactose from milk and whey.
Abstract: β Galactosidase from Aspergillus oryzae was immobilized on an inexpensive bioaffinity support, (concanavalin A) Con A-cellulose. The mode of interaction between Con A-cellulose and β galactosidase is shown by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Con A-cellulose adsorbed and crosslinked β galactosidase preparation retained 78% of the initial activity. Soluble and immobilized β galactosidase showed the same pH-optimum at pH 4.6. The temperature-optimum was increased from 50 to 60 °C for the immobilized β galactosidase. The immobilized enzyme had higher thermal stability at 60 °C. The crosslinked adsorbed enzyme retained 80 and 70% of the original enzyme activity in the presence of 3% calcium chloride and 3% galactose, respectively. Moreover, the adsorbed crosslinked and adsorbed β galactosidase exhibited 84 and 75% enzyme activity even after their sixth repeated use, respectively. The crosslinked adsorbed enzyme retained 93% activity after 1 month storage while the native enzyme showed only 63% activity under similar incubation conditions. Immobilized β galactosidase showed higher lactose hydrolysis from solution in batch process at 60 °C as compared to its hydrolysis at 50 °C. The continuous hydrolysis of lactose was appreciably different at various flow rates. Thus, the reactor filled with crosslinked Con A-cellulose adsorbed β galactosidase could be successfully employed for the continuous hydrolysis of lactose from milk and whey.
