TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the variability in appetite and body weight when participants engaged in a supervised and monitored exercise programme, and found that even when exercise energy expenditure is high, a healthy diet is still required for weight loss to occur in many people.
Abstract: Objective: In the majority of exercise intervention studies, the aggregate reported weight loss is often small. The efficacy of exercise as a weight loss tool remains in question. The aim of the present study was to investigate the variability in appetite and body weight when participants engaged in a supervised and monitored exercise programme. ---------- Design: Fifty-eight obese men and women (BMI = 31·8 ± 4·5 kg/m2) were prescribed exercise to expend approximately 2092 kJ (500 kcal) per session, five times a week at an intensity of 70 % maximum heart rate for 12 weeks under supervised conditions in the research unit. Body weight and composition, total daily energy intake and various health markers were measured at weeks 0, 4, 8 and 12. ---------- Results: Mean reduction in body weight (3·2 ± 1·98 kg) was significant (P < 0·001); however, there was large individual variability (−14·7 to +2·7 kg). This large variability could be largely attributed to the differences in energy intake over the 12-week intervention. Those participants who failed to lose meaningful weight increased their food intake and reduced intake of fruits and vegetables. ---------- Conclusion: These data have demonstrated that even when exercise energy expenditure is high, a healthy diet is still required for weight loss to occur in many people.

TL;DR: Ionisers may have a role in the prevention of Acinetobacter infections and no change in MRSA colonisation/infection was observed compared with the 5 month control period.
Abstract: To determine effect of negative air ions on colonisation/infection with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Acinetobacter species in an intensive care unit. Prospective single-centre cross-over study in an adult general intensive care unit. 201 patients whose stay on the unit exceeded 48 hour's duration. Six negative air ionisers were installed on the unit but not operational for the first 5 months of the study (control period). Devices were then operational for the following 5.5 months. 30 and 13 patients were colonised/infected with MRSA and Acinetobacter spp., respectively, over 10.5 months. No change in MRSA colonisation/infection was observed compared with the 5 month control period. Acinetobacter cases were reduced from 11 to 2 (p = 0.007). Ionisers may have a role in the prevention of Acinetobacter infections.

TL;DR: In this paper, an investigation was carried out into the effectiveness of teaching one element of a Science syllabus, using drama in place of conventional practical work, and no statistically significant differences were detected in factual recall, but significantly more meaningful learning appeared to have taken place when drama was used.
Abstract: An investigation was carried out into the effectiveness of teaching one element of a Science syllabus, using Drama in place of conventional practical work. No statistically significant differences were detected in factual recall, but significantly more ‘meaningful’ learning appeared to have taken place when Drama was used. Psychological and educational implications of this finding are discussed.

TL;DR: A number of technical indicators, back propagation neural network and genetic based backpropagation neural network to predict the stock price of the day are presented.
Abstract: A challenging and daunting task is to find out which is more effective and accurate method for stock rate prediction so that a buy or sell signal can be generated for given stocks. This paper presents a number of technical indicators, back propagation neural network and genetic based backpropagation neural network to predict the stock price of the day. Stock rate prediction accuracy of different technical indicators, backpropagation neural network and genetic algorithm based backpropagation neural network has been compared. The results showed that the genetic algorithm based backpropagation neural network predict stock price more accurately as compared to other techniques.

TL;DR: In this paper, sport education (SE) was introduced to two badminton groups (n=24 per group), aged 14-15, over 10 weeks with two one-hour sessions per week.
Abstract: PE in its traditional form involves teaching sport in a way that is mismatched with community sport. Children moving into community sport are not necessarily well placed to fit into this environment following PE experiences. Sport education (SE), developed by Siedentop, illustrates sport as seen and played in organized community sport. The purpose of this article is to see whether SE can successfully change the hierarchy of power in PE to provide a more authentic experience. SE was introduced to two badminton groups (n=24 per group), aged 14–15, over 10 weeks with two one-hour sessions per week. Observations of lessons were made alongside individual and group interviews. Benefits and difficulties experienced from changes in power hierarchies are discussed. Recommendations are given to improve changes of power in PE, particularly for those new to teaching this model.
