TL;DR: Because quality of life did show improvement for the experimental group, this type of nursing intervention can improve outcomes for patients after discharge from the hospital.
Abstract: This experimental study determined the effect of a structured nurse-managed postdischarge program for congestive heart failure (CHF) patients. The program consisted of telephone calls to participants in the experimental group 72 hours postdischarge, 72 hours later, and then every 2 weeks for 2 months. Patient self-care for CHF was evaluated. Data on unexpected office visits, emergency room visits, and readmissions due to exacerbation of CHF plus costs were collected. No significant differences were found. However, because quality of life did show improvement for the experimental group, this type of nursing intervention can improve outcomes for patients after discharge from the hospital.

TL;DR: Findings important to municipal policymakers are that DUI arrests and increasing the price of alcohol reduce alcohol-related crashes, and increases in the density of general alcohol licences for off-site (on-site) alcohol consumption are beneficial to highway safety whereas increasing thedensity of beer/wine licences have non-uniform effects.
Abstract: This paper employs a unique panel data from 111 small non-metropolitan incorporated cities in California during a 108 month period from January 1981 to December 1989 in order to analyse the effect of alcohol availability on highway safety. Negative binomial regression models are estimated which include alcohol licences per square mile as a measure of alcohol availability. Theoretically, the sign of the alcohol licence density is indeterminate as it reflects a trade-off of its effect on traffic exposure and on the time price alcohol. Among the findings, increases in the density of general alcohol licences for off-site (on-site) alcohol consumption are beneficial (detrimental) to highway safety whereas increasing the density of beer/wine licences have non-uniform effects. Additional findings important to municipal policymakers are that DUI arrests and increasing the price of alcohol reduce alcohol-related crashes.

TL;DR: A program for 4th- and 5th-grade students was designed to increase the student’s knowledge about nutrition and healthy lifestyles and there was a significant increase in student knowledge of nutrition andhealthy lifestyles as determined by a pretest and posttest evaluation.
Abstract: The problem of overweight children is an increasing public health concern in the United States. Many children today consume diets that are high in fat, lack regular physical activity, and receive minimal amounts of nutrition education at school. School-based education about nutrition and healthy lifestyles provides an opportunity for intervention with all children. A program for 4th- and 5th-grade students was designed to increase the student's knowledge about nutrition and healthy lifestyles. After implementation of the program, there was a significant increase in student knowledge of nutrition and healthy lifestyles as determined by a pretest and posttest evaluation. The results have implications for school nurses because childhood behaviors have such a profound impact on future adult lifestyle choices.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that if such robots are going to be designed, then an obligation emerges to prevent harm that the technology could cause, and they propose a rigorous scientific research agenda in the realm of intimate robotics, the aim of which would be to explore what effects the technology may have on users and on society more generally.
Abstract: Intimate relationships between robots and human beings may begin to form in the near future. Market forces, customer demand, and other factors may drive the creation of various forms of robots to which humans may form strong emotional attachments. Yet prior to the technology becoming fully actualized, numerous ethical, legal, and social issues must be addressed. This could be accomplished in part by establishing a rigorous scientific research agenda in the realm of intimate robotics, the aim of which would be to explore what effects the technology may have on users and on society more generally. Our goal is not to resolve whether the development of intimate robots is ethically appropriate. Rather, we contend that if such robots are going to be designed, then an obligation emerges to prevent harm that the technology could cause.
