TL;DR: The catfish Corydoras julii maintained high rates of Na+ uptake in dilute waters by having a Jmax value at least 100% higher than the other species, and Rio Negro fish generally were fairly tolerant of low pH.
Abstract: We measured unidirectional ion fluxes of fish collected directly from the Rio Negro, an extremely dilute, acidic blackwater tributary of the Amazon. Kinetic analysis of Na+ uptake revealed that most species had fairly similar Jmax values, ranging from 1,150 to 1,750 nmol g−1 h−1, while Km values varied to a greater extent. Three species had Km values <33 μmol L−1, while the rest had Km \documentclass{aastex} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{bm} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{pifont} \usepackage{stmaryrd} \usepackage{textcomp} \usepackage{portland,xspace} \usepackage{amsmath,amsxtra} \usepackage[OT2,OT1]{fontenc}

21 Sep 2011TL;DR: In this paper, a user can purchase rights to content in any format, such that as new formats emerge or the user upgrades to devices with enhanced capabilities, the user can receive the improved formats automatically without having to repurchase the content.
Abstract: Intelligent content delivery enables content to be delivered to different devices in formats appropriate for those devices based on the capabilities of those devices. A user might access the same piece of content on two different devices, and can automatically receive a higher quality format on a device capable of playing that higher quality format. The user can purchase rights to content in any format, such that as new formats emerge or the user upgrades to devices with enhanced capabilities, the user can receive the improved formats automatically without having to repurchase the content. Further, the user can pause and resume content between devices even when those devices utilize different formats, and can access content on devices not otherwise associated with the user, receiving content in formats that are appropriate for those unknown devices even if the user has not previously accessed content in those formats.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present techniques for managing a deployment pipeline using an inheritable and extensible source code template, referred to as a live pipeline template (LPT), which can be used to manage deployment pipelines which, in turn, are used to launch, maintain, and update the services and systems used to host and provide computing services.
Abstract: Techniques are presented for managing a deployment pipeline using an inheritable and extensible source code template—generally referred to as a live pipeline template (LPT). As described, live pipeline templates may be used to manage deployment pipelines which, in turn, are used to launch, maintain, and update the services and systems used to host and provide computing services.

16 Aug 2012TL;DR: In this article, a language model for speech recognition may be discriminatively pruned by computing a discriminative objective function value for one or more n-grams in the language model, and selecting ngrams to prune based on a threshold value.
Abstract: A language model for speech recognition may be discriminatively pruned. In some embodiments, the language model is discriminatively pruned by computing a discriminative objective function value for one or more n-grams in the language model, and selecting one or more n-grams to prune based at least in part on a threshold value. In some embodiments, the language model is discriminatively pruned to a sufficiently small number of n-grams such that transcription of audio inputs may occur in real time, or such that the pruned language model may be stored on a device with relatively limited electronic storage capacity.

15 Dec 2011TL;DR: In this article, a user device determines an orientation of the user device, and selects one of multiple antennas to use as a first transmit antenna based on the orientation of user device and transmits information using the first transmitter antenna.
Abstract: Methods and systems for selecting one of a plurality of antennas to be used as a transmit antenna based on an orientation of a user device are described. A user device determines an orientation of the user device, and selects one of multiple antennas to use as a first transmit antenna based on the orientation of the user device. The user device transmits information using the first transmit antenna.
