TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed that by proper functionalization and mixing strategy of graphene its dispersion, and bonding to the polymeric matrix can be improved, and they then applied this strategy to graphene-epoxy system by amino functionalization of graphene oxide (GO).
Abstract: Dispersion of nanomaterials in polymeric matrices plays an important role in determining the final properties of the composites. Dispersion in nano scale, and especially in single layers, provides best opportunity for bonding. In this study, we propose that by proper functionalization and mixing strategy of graphene its dispersion, and bonding to the polymeric matrix can be improved. We then apply this strategy to graphene-epoxy system by amino functionalization of graphene oxide (GO). The process included two phase extraction, and resulted in better dispersion and higher loading of graphene in epoxy matrix. Rheological evaluation of different graphene-epoxy dispersions showed a rheological percolation threshold of 0.2 vol% which is an indication of highly dispersed nanosheets. Observation of the samples by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM), showed dispersion homogeneity of the sheets at micro and nano scales. Study of graphene-epoxy composites showed good bonding between graphene and epoxy. Mechanical properties of the samples were consistent with theoretical predictions for ideal composites indicating molecular level dispersion and good bonding between nanosheets and epoxy matrix.

TL;DR: This paper presents a numerical method for solving a class of fractional optimal control problems (FOCPs) based upon the Legendre orthonormal polynomial basis, and achieves the solution of the FOCP.
Abstract: This paper presents a numerical method for solving a class of fractional optimal control problems (FOCPs). The fractional derivative in these problems is in the Caputo sense. The method is based upon the Legendre orthonormal polynomial basis. The operational matrices of fractional Riemann-Liouville integration and multiplication, along with the Lagrange multiplier method for the constrained extremum are considered. By this method, the given optimization problem reduces to the problem of solving a system of algebraic equations. By solving this system, we achieve the solution of the FOCP. Illustrative examples are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the new technique.

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the literature on facility layout problem is made by referring to numerous papers about FLP, mainly motivated by the current and prospective trends of research on such points as layout evolution, workshop characteristics, problem formulation, and solution methodologies.
Abstract: Facility layout problem (FLP) is defined as the placement of facilities in a plant area, with the aim of determining the most effective arrangement in accordance with some criteria or objectives under certain constraints, such as shape, size, orientation, and pick-up/drop-off point of the facilities. It has been over six decades since Koopmans and Beckmann published their seminal paper on modeling the FLP. Since then, there have been improvements to these researchers’ original quadratic assignment problem. However, research on many aspects of the FLP is still in its initial stage; hence, the issue is an interesting field to work on. Here, a review of literature is made by referring to numerous papers about FLPs. The study is mainly motivated by the current and prospective trends of research on such points as layout evolution, workshop characteristics, problem formulation, and solution methodologies. It points to gaps in the literature and suggests promising directions for future research on FLP.
