TL;DR: The Thirumanimuttar sub-basin forms an important groundwater province in south India, facing serious deficiency in both quality and quantity of groundwater due to increased demand associated with rapid population explosion, agricultural growth and industrial activities.
Abstract: The Thirumanimuttar sub-basin forms an important groundwater province in south India, facing serious deficiency in both quality and quantity of groundwater due to increased demand associated with rapid population explosion, agricultural growth and industrial activities A total of 194 groundwater samples were collected and 15 water quality parameters were analyzed using standard procedures Na + , Cl − , Ca2 + , HCO\(_{3}^{-}\), Mg2 + and SO\(_{4}^{2-}\) concentration ions are more dominant in both seasons The total dissolved solids and electrical conductivity was observed good correlation with Na + , Cl − , HCO\(_{3}^{-}\), Ca2 + , Mg2 + , Cl − , PO\(_{4}^{3-}\) and NO\(_{3}^{- }\) ions indicating dominance of plagioclase feldspar weathering, anthropogenic input and over drafting of groundwater irrespective of seasons The Hill–Piper diagram indicates alkaline earths exceed the alkalis, an increase of weak acids was noted during both the seasons For assessing the groundwater for irrigation suitability parameters like total hardness, sodium adsorption ratio, residual sodium carbonate (RSC), permeability index, and sodium percentage are also calculated Permanent hardness was noted in higher during both the seasons due to discharge of untreated effluents and ion exchange process The RSC indicates 56% of the samples are not suitable for irrigation purposes in both seasons, if continuously used will affect the crop yield From the results, nearly 72% of the samples are not suitable for irrigation

TL;DR: Oral treatment with AA showed near-normalized levels of plasma glucose, lipid peroxidation products, and antioxidants and improved insulin, IR, IRS-1/2, PI3K, Akt, and GLUT4 proteins.
Abstract: In this study, we examined the in vivo effect and the mechanism of asiatic acid (AA) on glucose uptake in an insulin target skeletal muscle. Diabetic rats showed significantly increased levels of plasma glucose, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, and lipid hydroperoxides, decreased levels of insulin and antioxidants, and impairment in insulin-signaling proteins such as insulin receptor (IR), insulin receptor substrate (IRS)-1/2, phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K), Akt, and glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) proteins. Oral treatment with AA (20 mg/kg body weight) showed near-normalized levels of plasma glucose, lipid peroxidation products, and antioxidants and improved insulin, IR, IRS-1/2, PI3K, Akt, and GLUT4 proteins. These findings suggest that AA improves glucose response by increasing GLUT4 in skeletal muscle through Akt and antioxidant defense in plasma and it also improves glucose homeostasis.

TL;DR: In this article, 2.2124Al alloy reinforced with 15% SiC composites made by powder metallurgy route was subjected to compression testing over a range of strain rates (0.001 −1.0 s −1 ) and temperatures (300 −500 c).
Abstract: 2124Al alloy reinforced with 15% SiC composites made by powder metallurgy route was subjected to compression testing over a range of strain rates (0.001–1.0 s −1 ) and temperatures (300–500 °C). Power dissipation efficiency and instability parameter were evaluated and plotted with temperature and log stain rate. Processing maps were constructed by superimposition of contour plots of power dissipation efficiency and instability parameter. The dynamic recrystallization zone and instable zones were identified in the processing map. Microstructural examination was performed for validation. The processing maps can be used to select optimum strain rates and temperatures for effective hot working of 2124Al/15% SiC composites. The activation energy map was also constructed to obtain safe processing window for hot working.

TL;DR: NARNPs have more potent anti-lipid peroxidative, antiproliferative effect and antioxidant potentials compared to free NAR in DMBA-induced oral carcinogenesis and could be a potentially useful drug carrier system for targeted delivery of naringenin for cancer chemoprevention.
Abstract: Nanochemoprevention has been introduced recently as a novel approach for improving phytochemicals bioavailability and anti-tumor effect. The present study is designed to evaluate the chemopreventive efficacy of prepared naringenin-loaded nanoparticles (NARNPs) relative to efficacy of free naringenin (NAR) against 7,12-dimethyl benz(a)anthracene (DMBA)-induced oral carcinogenesis by evaluating the status of lipid peroxidation, antioxidants and immunoexpression patterns of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and p53 proteins. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) investigations have confirmed a narrow size distribution of the prepared nanoparticles (40–90 nm) with ~88 % encapsulation efficiency. Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) was developed in the buccal pouch of golden Syrian hamsters by painting with 0.5 % DMBA in liquid paraffin three times a week for 14 weeks. DMBA painted animals revealed the morphological changes, hyperplasia, dysplasia and well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Moreover, the status of lipid peroxidation, antioxidants and immunoexpression of PCNA and p53 were significantly altered during DMBA-induced oral carcinogenesis. Oral administration of NARNPs (50 mg NAR/kg body weight/day) to DMBA-treated animals completely prevented the tumor formation as compared to the free NAR and significantly reduced the degree of histological lesions, in addition to restoration of the status of biochemical and molecular markers during oral carcinogenesis. In addition, NARNPs have more potent anti-lipid peroxidative, antiproliferative effect and antioxidant potentials compared to free NAR in DMBA-induced oral carcinogenesis. In conclusion, the present study suggests that NARNPs could be a potentially useful drug carrier system for targeted delivery of naringenin for cancer chemoprevention.
