TL;DR: The essential oil from the leaves of Blumea mollis was extracted and the chemical constituents and the larvicidal against Culex quinquefasciatus effects studied, and the results could be useful in search of newer, safer and more effective natural larv suicidal agent against C. quinqueferesciatus.
Abstract: The essential oil from the leaves of Blumea mollis was extracted and the chemical constituents and the larvicidal against Culex quinquefasciatus effects studied. The analyses of gas chromatography (GC) and GC–mass spectroscopy (GC–MS) revealed that the leaf essential oil of B. mollis contained 39 compounds, and the major chemical compounds identified were linalool (19.43%), γ-elemene (12.19%), copaene (10.93%), estragole (10.81%), Allo-ocimene (10.03%), γ-terpinene (8.28%) and Allo-aromadendrene (7.44%). The essential oil had significant toxic effect against early fourth-instar larvae of C. quinquefasciatus with LC50 = 71.71 and LC90 = 143.41 ppm. The results could be useful in search of newer, safer and more effective natural larvicidal agent against C. quinquefasciatus.

TL;DR: Results of the present study demonstrated that hesperidin could be a potential therapeutic agent in the treatment of oxidative stress and apoptosis associated neurodegenerative diseases including AD.
Abstract: Background/aims: Deregulation of metal ion homeostasis has been assumed as one of the key factors in the progression of neurodegenerative diseases. Aluminium (Al) has been believed as a major risk factor for the cause and progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). In our lab, we have previously reported that hesperidin, a citrus bioflavonoid reversed memory loss caused by aluminium intoxication through attenuating acetylcholine esterase activity and the expression of Amyloid β biosynthesis related markers. Al has been reported to cause oxidative stress associated apoptotic neuronal loss in the brain. So in the present study, protective effect of hesperidin against aluminium chloride (AlCl3) induced cognitive impairment, oxidative stress and apoptosis was studied. Methods: Male Wistar rats were divided into control, AlCl3 treated (100 mg/kg., b.w.), AlCl3 and hesperidin (100 mg/kg., b.w.) co-treated and hesperidin alone treated groups. In control and experimental rats, learning and memory impairment were meas...

TL;DR: In this article, a tablet formulation of ketoconazole incorporating drug nanoparticles to enhance saturation solubility and dissolution velocity for enhancing bioavailability and reducing variability in systemic exposure was developed.
Abstract: The objective of this study was to develop a tablet formulation of ketoconazole incorporating drug nanoparticles to enhance saturation solubility and dissolution velocity for enhancing bioavailability and reducing variability in systemic exposure. The bioavailability of ketoconazole is dissolution limited following oral administration. To enhance bioavailability and overcome variability in systemic exposure, a nanoparticle formulation of ketoconazole was developed. Ketoconazole nanoparticles were prepared using a media-milling technique. The nanosuspension was layered onto water-soluble carriers using a fluid bed processor. The nanosuspensions were characterized for particle size before and after layering onto water-soluble carriers. The saturation solubility and dissolution characteristics were investigated and compared with commercial ketoconazole formulation to ascertain the impact of particle size on drug dissolution. The drug nanoparticles were evaluated for solid-state transitions before and after milling using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). This study demonstrated that tablet formulation incorporating ketoconazole nanoparticles showed significantly faster rate of drug dissolution in a discriminating dissolution medium as compared with commercially available tablet formulation. There was no affect on solid-state properties of ketoconazole following milling. The manufacturing process used is relatively simple and scalable indicating general applicability to enhance dissolution and bioavailability of many sparingly soluble compounds.
