TL;DR: Many practically important problems in computational geometry may be regarded as a generalization of "clipping," and may be formulated precisely in terms of a function called "membership classification."
Abstract: Many practically important problems in computational geometry may be regarded as a generalization of "clipping," and may be formulated precisely in terms of a function called "membership classification." This function operates on a pair of point sets called the reference and candidate sets; it segments the candidate into three subsets which are "inside," "outside," and "on the boundary of" the reference. Examples of classification problems include clipping, polygon intersection, point inclusion, and solid interference.

TL;DR: This paper demonstrates that closure raises delicate issues, and presents a correct mathematical approach based on the topological notion of regularity, which is demonstrated to be correct.
Abstract: Boolean operations akin to set interaction, union, and difference play an imporatant role in CAD/CAM. Geometric entities of practical interest (e.g. polygons or polyhedra) are not algebraically closed under the conventional set operators, and therefore algorithms cannot implement conventional set operations if they are to produce results that can be used in subsequent calculations. This paper demonstrates that closure raises delicate issues, and presents a correct mathematical approach based on the topological notion of regularity.

TL;DR: In this article, an aluminium-4% copper alloy has been heat treated to give the supersaturated solid solution, G.P. zones, and θ′ precipitates, and the tensile properties have been determined and then related to the microstructural changes and fracture modes observed with the transmission and scanning electron microscopes.

TL;DR: In this article, a series of experiments are described in which energy losses are measured in a reversing oscillatory flow through a pipe exit, and it is shown that geometrical factors relating the amplitude of motion to the curvature of the mouth and radius of the tube have an important bearing on the incidence of energy loss.

TL;DR: Simulation results reveal that this new policy is simpler to implement and yields better performance than that of distributed routing algorithm and buffer allocation flow control policy, which are currently being used in many packet switched networks.
Abstract: A new policy that can effectively handle message routing and flow control simultaneously in a packet switched computer network is presented. In such a policy, a traffic threshold level is assigned for each channel in the network. If all the channels along the preassigned primary route from current node to its destination do not exceed the predetermined traffic threshold, then the primary route is used. Otherwise, alternative route(s) are used to share the traffic load. When all the alternative routes from a source to a destination become unavailable, then the input traffic from that source to that destination is temporarily rejected. Simulation results of the behavior and performance of such a routing and flow control policy are presented. The implementation of the policy is also discussed. Simulation results reveal that this new policy is simpler to implement and yields better performance than that of distributed routing algorithm and buffer allocation flow control policy, which are currently being used in many packet switched networks.
