TL;DR: The fragility-glass transition temperature relationship is investigated, and it is found that reported scaling laws do not apply in the flexible phase, while being valid for intermediate and stressed rigid compositions.
Abstract: Variation of fragility (m) of specially homogenized GexSe100−x melts is established from complex specific heat measurements and shows that m(x) has a global minimum at an extremely low value (m = 14.8(0.5)) in the 21.5% Tg, we observe a slowdown of melt-homogenization by the super-strong melt compositions, 21.5% < x < 23%. This range furthermore appears to be correlated to the one observed between the flexible and stressed rigid phase in network glasses. These spectacular features underscore the crucial role played by topology and rigidity in the properties of network-forming liquids and glasses which are highlighted when fragility is represented as a function of variables tracking the effect of rigidity. Finally, we investigate the fragility-glass transition temperature relationship, a...

TL;DR: A novel hybrid nanosystem based on a highly networked silica nanoarchitecture conjugated through covalent bonding to an organic functional molecule, a tetraphenylporphyrin derivative, and its metal complexes is presented, showing excellent performance for acetone sensing at low operating temperatures (37 °C), making it available for diagnostic monitoring.
Abstract: The development of novel functional nanomaterials is critically important for the further evolution of advanced chemical sensor technology. For this purpose, metalloporphyrins offer unique binding properties as host molecules that can be tailored at the synthetic level and potentially improved by incorporation into inorganic materials. In this work, we present a novel hybrid nanosystem based on a highly networked silica nanoarchitecture conjugated through covalent bonding to an organic functional molecule, a tetraphenylporphyrin derivative, and its metal complexes. The sensing properties of the new hybrid materials were studied using a nanomechanical membrane-type surface stress sensor (MSS) with acetone and nitric oxide as model analytes. This hybrid inorganic–organic MSS-based system exhibited excellent performance for acetone sensing at low operating temperatures (37 °C), making it available for diagnostic monitoring. The hybridization of an inorganic substrate of large surface area with organic molecu...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the direct and indirect effects of managerial and technological innovations on customer satisfaction as well as the indirect effects through operational performance and found that managerial innovation significantly and positively affects overall operational performance, quality performance, delivery performance, and flexibility performance.
Abstract: This study constructs multi-item scales to measure key components of managerial and technological innovations and examines their impact on operational performance. It also examines the direct effects of managerial and technological innovations on customer satisfaction as well as the indirect effects through operational performance. Data were collected from 214 manufacturing plants in the machinery, electrical and electronics and automobile industries in seven countries - Austria, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea and the USA. We find that managerial innovation significantly and positively affects overall operational performance, quality performance, delivery performance, and flexibility performance. The results show that technological innovation significantly and positively affects overall operational performance, cost performance, delivery performance, flexibility performance, and innovative performance. We also find that both types of innovation have a direct effect and an indirect effect through operational performance on customer satisfaction.

TL;DR: It is suggested that interaction between an advanced glycation end product (AGE) and its receptor (RAGE) results in glial activation as well as cytokine release and reactive oxygen species release, and thereby to slow down the progression of aging-related diseases.
Abstract: Glycation is a protein modification, which results in a change in a protein structure. Glycation is believed to be the etiology of various age-related diseases such as diabetes mellitus and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Activation of microglia and resident macrophages in the brain by glycated proteins with subsequent oxidative stress and cytokine release may be an important factor in the progression of AD. It is also suggested that interaction between an advanced glycation end product (AGE) and its receptor (RAGE) results in glial activation as well as cytokine release and reactive oxygen species release. The use of antioxidants, receptor mediated compounds and reactive oxygen species scavenging enzyme produce an opportunity to intervene with AGE-RAGE signaling pathway, and thereby to slow down the progression of aging-related diseases.
