TL;DR: In this article, the optical properties of strongly absorbing uniaxial crystals are examined and the reflectance equation is solved in a form suitable for computer calculation of optical properties from experimental reflectance data.
Abstract: The optical properties of strongly absorbing uniaxial crystals are examined. Equations for the reflectances for the basal plane are derived. The angle of refraction is discussed and the absorption coefficient for the ordinary wave is derived. The reflectance equation is solved in a form suitable for computer calculation of optical properties from experimental reflectance data.

TL;DR: In this article, the potentiality and diversity of biological activities of silver nanoparticles that originated from the combination of silver and phyto-constituents of mostly traditionally used Sudanese medicinal and aromatic plants are critically reviewed.
Abstract: Sudan has a tremendous wealth flora due to its unique geographical location and diverse climate. Vast records of plants and plants’ secondary metabolites are reported to possess redox capacity and can be exploited for the biosynthesis of nanoparticles. Plant-mediated synthesis of silver nanoparticles is preferred due to their availability and their various metabolites. The present review explores the potentiality and diversity of biological activities of silver nanoparticles that originated from the combination of silver and phyto-constituents of mostly traditionally used Sudanese medicinal and aromatic plants. The green synthesis methods of silver nanoparticles mediated by more than 45 traditionally used medicinal plants are critically reviewed. In addition, parameters that affect the synthesis of plant-mediated silver nanoparticles, their characterization techniques and various biological activities are summarized and discussed. Thus, the study of green synthesis of silver nanoparticles and its applications can be extended to involve vast plant diversity of Sudan.

TL;DR: Algorithms are developed for a real-time, automatic system capable of tracking two-dimensional (2-D) targets in complex scenes and a CCD-implementable solution is developed which is particularly useful when considering target rotation and dilation and target/background separation.
Abstract: Algorithms are developed for a real-time, automatic system capable of tracking two-dimensional (2-D) targets in complex scenes. A mathematical model of 2-D image spatial and temporal evolution applicable to certain classes of targets and target perturbations is developed. It is shown that for small target perturbations the 2-D tracking problem may be approximated as a 1-D time-varying parameter estimation problem. A CCD-implementable solution is developed which is particularly useful when considering target rotation and dilation and target/background separation. Results of system simulation and suggestions for future research are presented.

TL;DR: A large-scale integrated modeling system (IMS) was developed for supporting climate-change impact analysis and adaptation planning under multi-level uncertainties, including fuzzy-interval inference method (FIIM), inexact energy model (IEM), and uncertainty analysis.
Abstract: In this study, a large-scale integrated modeling system (IMS) was developed for supporting climate-change impact analysis and adaptation planning under multi-level uncertainties. A number of methodologies were seamlessly incorporated within IMS, including fuzzy-interval inference method (FIIM), inexact energy model (IEM), and uncertainty analysis. The system could (i) encompass multiple technologies, energy resources, and sub-sectors, and climate change impact analysis into a general modeling framework, (ii) address interactions of climate change impacts on multiple energy sub-sectors and resources within an EMS, (iii) identify optimal adaptation strategies of an EMS to climate change impact through a two-step procedure, (iv) deal with multiple levels of uncertain information associated with processes of climate change impact analysis and adaptation planning, and (v) seamlessly combine climate change impact analysis results with inexact adaptation planning. It could provide decision makers a comprehensive view on the EMS as well as the corresponding adaptation schemes under climate change, greatly improving the robustness and completeness of the decision-making processes. The generated solutions can provide desired energy resource/service allocation with a minimized system cost, a maximized system reliability and a maximized energy security under varied climate change impact levels, as well as multiple levels of uncertainties. In a companion paper, the developed method is applied to a real case for the long-term planning of waste management in the Province of Manitoba, Canada.
