TL;DR: Finapres Medical Systems design and manufacture a range of non-invasive cardiovascular monitoring devices, which are widely used in the assessment and diagnosis of a variety of medical conditions, and investigate the potential of different signal processing and expert systems approaches to enhance the diagnostic capability of the system.
Abstract: Finapres Medical Systems design and manufacture a range of non-invasive cardiovascular monitoring devices, which are widely used in the assessment and diagnosis of a variety of medical conditions. These systems have the capability of providing ASCII output of the blood pressure and heart rate trace. This ASCII output allows the reproduction and analysis of the blood pressure traces in third party software. In this work, was used to investigate the potential of different signal processing and expert systems approaches to enhance the diagnostic capability of the system. Initially, attempts were made to improve the readability of the signal by the application of signal filtering algorithms. New techniques for automatically extracting information from the blood pressure traces were also developed. These techniques were applied to the blood pressure traces of a number of patients, with a variety of medical conditions, recorded during head up tilt testing sessions at the Clinical Age Assessment Unit at Yarmouk Hospital in Baghdad. Finally, a statistical analysis was performed on the data extracted in an attempt to better understand some of the underlying mechanisms of orthostatic intolerance.

TL;DR: Investigation of the wintering ability of different June-bearing strawberry cultivars in the cold semi-arid continental climate of Manitoba between 2015 and 2018 found low winter temperatures with less snow on grounds establish pronounced effect on early season cultivars wintering index.
Abstract: In temperate climatic regions where severe winter conditions persist, the winter hardiness and fruit yield of strawberry cultivars vary greatly in perennial production systems. A 4-year study was c...

TL;DR: In this paper, the efficacy and compatibility of various biocontrol agents on key pests (western flower thrips, two-spotted spider mites, greenhouse whiteflies, and aphids) of spring bedding plants grown in a commercial floricultural greenhouse.
Abstract: The environment inside Canadian prairie greenhouses differs from greenhouses built in other northern latitude locations in terms of lighting, temperature, humidity, and photoperiod. Since the performance of biocontrol agents depends upon several interactive environmental variables, their effectiveness to control pests in a particular crop growing under certain climatic conditions does not directly translate to another crop or location. So, we analyzed research trials assessing the efficacy and compatibility of various biocontrol agents (Amblyseius cucumeris, Amblyseius cucumeris, Phytoseiulus persimilis, Encarsia formosa, Aphidius colemani, Aphidius ervi, and Steinernema feltiae) on key pests (Western flower thrips, two-spotted spider mites, greenhouse whiteflies, and aphids) of spring bedding plants grown in a commercial floricultural greenhouse. Were analyzed several compatible combinations of biocontrol agents and observed a significant reduction in pest densities and plant damage symptoms as compared to untreated control plants. The results demonstrate that P. persimilis controlled two-spotted spider mites successfully in calibrachoa crop. The combination of Amblyseius cucumeris and S. feltiae resulted in significantly better control of Western flower thrips than the use of Amblyseius cucumeris alone in sweet potato vine plants. The application of E. formosa and Amblyseius cucumeris individually reduced greenhouse whiteflies on calibrachoa plants as compared to control, but their combination performed better resulting in a significantly lower number of whiteflies on plants. Another combination of Aphidius colemani and Aphidius ervi controlled green peach aphids and foxglove aphids effectively on the pansy crop. The biocontrol agents were effective for managing a variety of pests in a commercial greenhouse setting.

TL;DR: A review of the relevant literature and within the framework of Edward Said's postcolonial ‘Orientalism' theory, the purpose of this chapter is to describe and examine the history of higher education in Bahrain this article .
Abstract: Public schooling in Bahrain can be traced back to the early 1900s. This is in contrast to its higher education system, which is comparatively still in its infancy. Postsecondary education in Bahrain started in the late 1960s with the creation of the Teachers College in 1966 and the foundation of Gulf Technical College in 1968, which became Gulf Polytechnic and is today part of the University of Bahrain. Since the turn of the century, however, Bahrain has seen rapid development and growth in its postsecondary sector. The Bahraini government has made investing heavily in its higher education system a high priority. With only three higher education institutes prior to 2000, Bahrain today boasts over 20 postsecondary institutions, with the vast majority being international branch campuses or affiliations with international universities. With Bahrain’s heavy investment in its higher education sector, it has aspirations to be an international education hub that can attract top students to attend its universities. For Bahrain, recruitment of regional and international students for its universities is vital for its sustainability, as its population alone cannot fill or support its institutions. Through a review of the relevant literature and within the framework of Edward Said’s postcolonial ‘Orientalism’ theory, the purpose of this chapter is to describe and examine the history of higher education in Bahrain. This chapter is concerned with the following questions: how has Bahrain’s colonial history influenced the Kingdom’s past and current developments in higher education? Has the progress made in higher education in Bahrain resulted in increased academic successes? Is Bahrain advancing toward its goal of becoming a regional and international education hub? The chapter will conclude with a reflection and offer some probable outcomes.
