TL;DR: The susceptibility of various bacteriogenic iron oxides (BIOS) to bacterial Fe(III) reduction was examined in this paper, where the reduction resulted in complete dissolution of the iron mineral from the surfaces of the Fe-oxidizing consortium.
Abstract: The susceptibility of various bacteriogenic iron oxides (BIOS) to bacterial Fe(III) reduction was examined. Reduction resulted in complete dissolution of the iron mineral from the surfaces of the Fe-oxidizing consortium. Reduction rates were compared to that of synthetic ferrihydrite (HFO). The reduction rate of HFO (0.162 day− 1) was significantly lower than that of Aspo (Gallionella dominated) BIOS (0.269 day− 1). Two Canadian (Leptothrix dominated) BIOS samples showed statistically equivalent rates of reduction (0.541 day−1 and 0.467 day− 1), which were higher than both Aspo BIOS and HFO. BIOS produced by different iron-oxidizing genera have different susceptibilities to microbial reduction.

TL;DR: In this paper, the dynamic response of the fluoride-selective electrode was shown to result from four distinct processes: ion diffusion, an undefined reaction, LaF3 dissolution and a calibration drift.

TL;DR: In this paper, the relative stability and solubility of solid uranium oxides and uranium speciation in aqueous solutions were examined using thermodynamic calculations, and the dissolution of UO2 was studied in NaClO4 and Na2SO4 solutions as a function of pH over a range of 0.8 to 12.7.

TL;DR: In this paper, changes in the vertical distribution of acid-soluble ferrous and total iron in filtered lake water were measured weekly for 12 months using the organic reagent bathophenanthroline.
Abstract: Changes in the vertical distribution of acid-soluble ferrous and total iron in filtered lake water were measured weekly for 12 months using the organic reagent bathophenanthroline. Acid-soluble ferrous iron was present throughout all strata, the concentration fluctuating in a definite annual pattern. Values of Fe*+ changed hourly and followed a diurnal pattern, It is suggested that the concentration of Fe’+ in lake water is controlled by photochemical reactions and, perhaps, also by metabolic activity of microorganisms.
