Abstract: The fluorescence intensity of a sodium vapour excited by a multimode dye-laser is observed as a function of the applied magnetic field: a resonant decrease of the fluorescence occurs when the frequency difference between two laser modes coincides with the frequency of an hyperfine transition of the ground state. An experimental proof is reported which evidences the coherent nature of the phenomenon.

The number and distribution of mast cells in rat brain were determined at different postnatal ages. The number of brain mast cells was found to change during ontogenic development following the same pattern as brain histamine (HA) levels. The calculated HA content of brain mast cells was close to the HA content of the crude nuclear fraction at every age studied. Since most of the brain HA in the newborn sediments with the crude nuclear fraction, these results suggest that the developmental pattern of brain HA reflects changes in the number of brain mast cells, that is, in the size of the mast cell HA pool. The HA content of the supernatant of the crude nuclear fraction corrected for mast cell HA contamination, on the other hand, follows a developmental pattern similar to that of other known neurotransmitters.

Abstract: Este estudio analiza el problema de la integracion en Cataluna de personas procedentes de otras tierras de Espana, desde el punto de vista de la sociedad receptora, en su doble dimension de sociedad industrial urbana, capitalista, dividida en clases; y cultural e historicamente delimitada. Se analiza la inmigracion interregional hacia Cataluna distinguiendola de los movimientos y desplazamientos de poblacion intrarregionales o intracomarcales, vinculados a la movilidad ocupacional caracteristica en una economia de mercado y que afecta tanto a la poblacion activa autoctona como a la inmigrada hace anos a Cataluna. Se parte asimismo del supuesto del abandono de la idea de retorno a la region de origen por parte de la gran mayoria de inmigrantes, tras un tiempo de permanencia en Cataluna, generalmente corto.

Abstract: A three-dimensional treatment of the resonant tunneling current assisted by short-range potential traps is discussed by means of a steady-state formulation. A new resonance approximation is suggested in the scattering operator, obtaining a simple expression for the resonant current in terms of the one-dimensional Green's function potential barrier. This expression does not depend on the short-range trap potential. The results are even valid for large values of resonant shift with respect to the trap level.
Les auteurs presentent un traitement a trois dimensions, formule en etat stationnaire, du courrant tunnel resonant, assiste par des pieges de potentiel de court rayon d'action. On introduit une nouvelle approche de resonance dans l'aperateur de diffusion, tout en arrivant a une expression simple du courrant resonant, par rapport a la fonction de Green a une seule dimension du potentiel barriere et avec independance du potentiel piege. Les resultats sont valables měme sous des valeurs importantes du deplacement de la resonance par rapport au niveau piege.

Abstract: The elastic resonant tunneling process is analysed in a three-dimensional way, by means of a new stationary resonance model (SRM). Taking the Green's function of the potential barrier of an asymmetric MIM structure as a starting point, the resonant current density due to the localized states which are in the insulators is calculated. Peaks in the logarithmic conductance derivate (zero bias anomaly), as well as a great current sensitivity to temperature at low bias are proved to exist. The experimental results in the literature agree with the theoretical predictions.
Le processus tunnel resonant elastique-est analyse tridimensionnellement par un noveau modele de resonnance stationnaire (SRM). Au moyen de la fonction de Green du potentiel barriere d'une structure MIM asymetrique, on calcule la densite du courrant resonnant, provenant des etats localises dans l'isolant. On demontre l'existence de pics dans la derivee de la conductance logarithmique (anomalite a polarisation zero), ainsi que d'une grande sensibilite du courant par rapport a la temperature dans le cas de basse tension de polarisation. Les resultats des experiencies dans la litterature confirment nos previsions theoriques.

Abstract: 2014 A new switching criterion for Metal-Insulator-Si(n)-Si(p+) structures based on the MIS diode capacity is given within the framework of a simple electrostatic model. The values of the switching voltage and its dependence on temperature, together with the switching current are calculated on the basis of analytical expressions. Abstract: The case of a 50-year-old woman with a retroperitoneal paraganglioma and nephrotic syndrome is presented. After the tumor was removed deposits of amyloid material were observed in the paraganglioma, kidneys, and liver. There was no thrombosis of the renal vein. The clinical picture (fever and nephrotic syndrome) was similar to that of patients with amyloidosis associated with neoplasms. The nephrotic syndrome disappeared 8 months after the operation. The patient has not had fever or nephrotic manifestations over the past 4 years and is asymptomatic at the present time. We believe this to be the first reported case of paraganglioma associated with amyloidosis. Nor have we found any references to clinical and biological remission of the nephrotic syndrome following surgical removal of the concomitant neoplasm. Cancer 43:702–706, 1979.

Abstract: The yield of fragments of astrophysical interest 6≤A≤11 emitted in complex interactions of α-particles with the C, N, O nuclei of the nuclear emulsion has been experimentally determined at energies near the threshold of production. Reaction products have been identified through a kinematical analysis of each interaction. Production cross-sections have been computed and the contribution of the different reaction channels to each isotope elucidated.

Abstract: Using a variational expression generalization for the APW method and radial part wave functions at fixed energies a diagonalizable secular matrix is obtained. A parameter relationship of the variational expression with potential depending variables is established. This method is applied to tantalum for which various band calculations by means of typical methods exist. It is noticed that, if there is some divergency, this is only a small one, and, in any case, can be solved by exchange and correlation potential parametrization.
Lors de ce travail on utilise une generalisation de l'expression variationnelle de la methode APW. On prend des fonctions d'onde avec partie radiale determinee a energie fixe. On obtient une matrice seculaire diagonilisable. On determine le rapport des parametres de l'expression variationnelle avec des variables rattachees au potential. Le travail suppose une simplification pour le cas de plusieurs atomes par celue-unitaire. Nous avons applique cette methode au Tantale dont on dispose de plusieurs calculs de bande realises par des methodes traditionnelles, tout en verifiant que, s'il y a des divergences celles-ci sont petites, et, en tout cas, absorbables par le parametrisation du potentiel d'echange et correlations.

Abstract: Aquest article es el fruit del treball dut a terme en un seminari de sociologia durant el curs 1977-1978. A partir de l'analisi d'una mostra d'anuncis publicitaris diversos, pero que tenen com a denominador comu la presencia de la dona, hom intenta veure quin es l'estereotip de la dona vehiculat per la publicitat. L'elaboracio d'un codi de classificacio permet de situar la dona dels anuncis en diferents etapes de la seva vida i en l'exercici de papers diversos: nena, noia, esposa, mare, mestressa de casa, dona en el treball i dona amant. Pero en aquesta diversitat de situacions no hi ha mai contradiccio, sino un model coherent i unic: la nena i la noia son ja dones, i les dones continuen essent sempre criatures; casolana encara que treballi, la dona es simultaniament esposa, mare i amant. Les dues caracteristiques fonamentals d'aquest estereotip de la dona als anuncis publicitaris son, d'una banda, la constant accentuacio de la seva dimensio erotica i sexual i, de l'altra, la seva sistematica subordinacio a l'home. D'aquesta manera la publicitat acompleix una doble funcio, de reproduccio de la ideologia dominant, i de legitimacio i reforcament d'aquesta mateixa ideologia.

Abstract: A survey among hospital staff physicians was conducted in order to evaluate their attitudes towards systemic antimicrobial agents. Direct questions about the value of different agents and choice within pairs of antimicrobial drugs, stating the reasons for the preference, were included in the questionnaire used. Gentamicin, penicillin G and ampicillin were the most popular antibiotics among respondents. On the other hand, ampicillin, penicillin G, sulfonamides, tetracycline and aminoglycosides were the agents perceived as most often associated with side-effects. Low toxicity, bactericidal effect, diffusion in the body and familiarity with the drug were acknowledged as the most important attributes in choice of a systemic antimicrobial agent, but a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity appeared as a major determinant in the choice of these drugs when physicians were asked to select one substance from members of several pairs listed. The results suggest that certain important misconceptions may have played a substantial role in the prescribing habits of the physicians surveyed.
