28 Mar 2011TL;DR: A comprehensive list of information quality flaws in Wikipedia is compiled, model them according to the latest state of the art, and devise one-class classification technology for their identification.
Abstract: Featured articles in Wikipedia stand for high information quality, and it has been found interesting to researchers to analyze whether and how they can be distinguished from "ordinary" articles. Here we point out that article discrimination falls far short of writer support or automatic quality assurance: Featured articles are not identified, but are made. Following this motto we compile a comprehensive list of information quality flaws in Wikipedia, model them according to the latest state of the art, and devise one-class classification technology for their identification.

22 Jun 2015TL;DR: The requirements and critical challenges for creating and staging interactive costumes in the theatre are discussed, based on two practice-based case studies: a self-directed design research within a student project and a collaboration with a local theatre house, where interactive costume elements were developed in a real-life setting.
Abstract: In this paper, we discuss the requirements and critical challenges for creating and staging interactive costumes in the theatre. Different to other types of performance, theatre costumes are secondary to acting. Our investigations are based on two practice-based case studies: a self-directed design research within a student project, and a collaboration with a local theatre house, where interactive costume elements were developed in a real-life setting. These reveal requirements and challenges for the design process as well as the effective staging of interactive costumes, the biggest challenge being how to integrate these into existing structures of traditional theatre houses, and requirements for the costumes themselves. Because interactive costumes integrate technological features and traditional analogue crafts, they require interdisciplinary collaboration and transcend established boundaries between departments in theatre houses, challenging established work processes and structures.

TL;DR: The frequency-dependent electrical and dielectric properties of a broad range of soil samples are investigated and time-domain reflectometry (TDR) is suggested to use for the in Situ assessment of high-frequency electrical properties and deduced prediction of GPR performance.
Abstract: The performance of high-frequency ground-penetrating radar (GPR) for high-resolution imaging of the near surface can essentially be controlled by the soil electromagnetic (EM) properties. One of these properties influencing sensing depth and image resolution of GPR is the intrinsic attenuation. We investigated the frequency-dependent electrical and dielectric properties of a broad range of soil samples. In order to derive the effective complex dielectric permittivity between 1 MHz and 10 GHz, we applied the coaxial transmission line (CTL) technique. A generalized dielectric response model, consisting of one Debye and one Cole-Cole type relaxation and a constant low-frequency conductivity term was used to analyze the dielectric relaxation behavior. Splitting the spectra into individual loss processes shows that dielectric relaxation mechanisms play a crucial role in most natural soils. Especially for high-frequency applications, attenuation cannot be described by a dielectric constant and dc-conductivity alone. Therefore, a simple conductivity-attenuation relation without dielectric losses can highly overestimate the GPR performance. As an alternative to the CTL technique in the lab, we suggest to use time-domain reflectometry (TDR) for the in Situ assessment of high-frequency electrical properties and deduced prediction of GPR performance.

TL;DR: A complete wind-vehicle-bridge interaction (W-VBI) framework is presented in which the pavement irregularities are simulated as random surfaces that include the bridge joints instead of traditional one-dimensional road profiles, observed for the first time that 1D road irregularity models can significantly underpredict the risk of discomfort and of driving instabilities in bridges subjected to crosswinds.

TL;DR: It is reported that the four shared tasks organized as part of the PAN 2020 evaluation lab on digital text forensics and authorship analysis attracted 230 registrations, yielding 83 successful submissions, marking for a good start into the second decade of PAN evaluations labs.
Abstract: We briefly report on the four shared tasks organized as part of the PAN 2020 evaluation lab on digital text forensics and authorship analysis. Each tasks is introduced, motivated, and the results obtained are presented. Altogether, the four tasks attracted 230 registrations, yielding 83 successful submissions. This, and the fact that we continue to invite the submissions of software rather than its run output using the TIRA experimentation platform, marks for a good start into the second decade of PAN evaluations labs.
