Abstract: We study the process e(+)e(-) -> (D* (D) over bar*)(+/-)pi(-/+) at a center-of-mass energy of 4.26 GeV using a 827 pb(-1) data sample obtained with the BESIII detector at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. Based on a partial reconstruction technique, the Born cross section is measured to be (137 +/- 9 +/- 15) pb. We observe a structure near the (D* (D) over bar*)(+/-) threshold in the pi(-/+) recoil mass spectrum, which we denote as the Z(c)(+/-) (4025). The measured mass and width of the structure are (4026.3 +/- 2.6 +/- 3.7) MeV/c(2) and (24.8 +/- 5.6 +/- 7.7) MeV, respectively. Its production ratio sigma(e(+)e(-) -> Z(c)(+/-)(4025)pi(-/+)-> (D* (D) over bar*)(+/-)pi(-/+)/sigma(e(+)e(-) -> (D* (D) over bar*)(+/-)pi(-/+) is determined to be 0.65 +/- 0.09 +/- 0.06. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Abstract: The route choice of pedestrians during evacuation under conditions of both good and zero visibility is investigated using a group of experiments conducted in a classroom, and a microscopic pedestrian model with discrete space representation. Observation of the video recordings made during the experiments reveals several typical forms of behavior related to preference for destination, effect of capacity, interaction between pedestrians, following behavior and evacuation efficiency. Based on these forms of behavior, a microscopic pedestrian model with discrete space representation is developed. In the model, two algorithms are proposed to describe the movement of pedestrians to a destination under conditions of both good and zero visibility, respectively. Through numerical simulations, the ability of the model to reproduce the behavior observed in the experiments is verified. The study is helpful for devising evacuation schemes and in the design of internal layouts and exit arrangements in buildings that are similar to the classroom.

Abstract: We report the observation of new properties of primary cosmic rays He, C, and O measured in the rigidity (momentum/charge) range 2 GV to 3 TV with 90×106 helium, 8.4×106 carbon, and 7.0×106 oxygen nuclei collected by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) during the first five years of operation. Above 60 GV, these three spectra have identical rigidity dependence. They all deviate from a single power law above 200 GV and harden in an identical way.

Abstract: Natural language is hierarchically structured: smaller units (e.g., phrases) are nested within larger units (e.g., clauses). When a larger constituent ends, all of the smaller constituents that are nested within it must also be closed. While the standard LSTM architecture allows different neurons to track information at different time scales, it does not have an explicit bias towards modeling a hierarchy of constituents. This paper proposes to add such an inductive bias by ordering the neurons; a vector of master input and forget gates ensures that when a given neuron is updated, all the neurons that follow it in the ordering are also updated. Our novel recurrent architecture, ordered neurons LSTM (ON-LSTM), achieves good performance on four different tasks: language modeling, unsupervised parsing, targeted syntactic evaluation, and logical inference.

Abstract: Perpendicular magnetic tunnel junctions based on MgO/CoFeB structures are of particular interest for magnetic random-access memories because of their excellent thermal stability, scaling potential, and power dissipation. However, the major challenge of current-induced switching in the nanopillars with both a large tunnel magnetoresistance ratio and a low junction resistance is still to be met. Here, we report spin transfer torque switching in nano-scale perpendicular magnetic tunnel junctions with a magnetoresistance ratio up to 249% and a resistance area product as low as 7.0 Ω µm2, which consists of atom-thick W layers and double MgO/CoFeB interfaces. The efficient resonant tunnelling transmission induced by the atom-thick W layers could contribute to the larger magnetoresistance ratio than conventional structures with Ta layers, in addition to the robustness of W layers against high-temperature diffusion during annealing. The critical switching current density could be lower than 3.0 MA cm−2 for devices with a 45-nm radius. Perpendicular magnetic tunnel junctions with large tunnel magnetoresistance and low junction resistance are promising for the magnetic random access memories. Here the authors achieve the spin-transfer-torque switching in perpendicular magnetic tunnel junctions with 249% tunnel magnetoresistance and low resistance-area product.
