TL;DR: A novel deep-learning driven mmWave gait recognition method called mmGaitNet is proposed, and it is found that it is able to achieve 90% accuracy for single-person scenarios, 88%" accuracy for five co-existing persons, while the existing methods achieve less than 66% accuracy.
Abstract: Gait recognition, i.e., recognizing persons from their walking postures, has found versatile applications in security check, health monitoring, and novel human-computer interaction. The millimeter-wave (mmWave) based gait recognition represents the most recent advance. Compared with traditional camera-based solutions, mmWave based gait recognition bears unique advantages of being still effective under non-line-of-sight scenarios, such as in black, weak light, or blockage conditions. Moreover, they are able to accomplish person identification while preserving privacy. Currently, there are only few works in mmWave gait recognition, since no public data set is available. In this paper, we build a first-of-its-kind mmWave gait data set, in which we collect gait of 95 volunteers 'seen' from two mmWave radars in two different scenarios, which together lasts about 30 hours. Using the data set, we propose a novel deep-learning driven mmWave gait recognition method called mmGaitNet, and compare it with five state-of-the-art algorithms. We find that mmGaitNet is able to achieve 90% accuracy for single-person scenarios, 88% accuracy for five co-existing persons, while the existing methods achieve less than 66% accuracy for both scenarios.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the perfect ultra-narrowband absorption is ascribed to the coupling effect induced by localized surface plasmon resonance, and the optimal structure is obtained with the extremely low reflectivity of the resonance dip.
Abstract: We propose and numerically investigate a perfect ultra-narrowband absorber with an absorption bandwidth of only 1.82 nm and an absorption efficiency exceeding 95% in the visible region. We demonstrate that the perfect ultra-narrowband absorption is ascribed to the coupling effect induced by localized surface plasmon resonance. The influence of structural dimensions on the optical performance is also investigated, and the optimal structure is obtained with the extremely low reflectivity (0.001) of the resonance dip. The perfect absorber can be operated as a refractive index sensor with a sensitivity of around 425 nm/RIU and the figure of merit (FOM) reaching 233.5, which greatly improves the accuracy of the plasmonic sensors in visible region. Moreover, the corresponding figure of merit (FOM*) for this sensor is also calculated to describe the performance of the intensity change detection at a fixed frequency, which can be up to 1.4 × 105. Due to the high sensing performance, the metamaterial structure has great potential in the biological binding, integrated photodetectors, chemical applications and so on.

TL;DR: TD-SCDMA, a combination of TDD and synchronous CDMA, offers several unique advantages over its alternatives, WCDMA and cdma2000, such as flexible spectrum allocation, low-cost implementation, and easier migration from GSM systems.
Abstract: China has fully embraced the remarkable growth and unprecedented penetration of mobile services, and has become the world's largest mobile cellular market. TD-SCDMA was proposed by the China Wireless Technology Standard (CWTS) Group in 1998, approved as one of the 3G standards by ITU in May 2000, and joined 3GPP in March 2001. This has been a major effort by China to advance its mobile communication systems and facilitate its own technological development in this critical area. TD-SCDMA, a combination of TDD and synchronous CDMA, offers several unique advantages over its alternatives, WCDMA and cdma2000, such as flexible spectrum allocation, low-cost implementation, and easier migration from GSM systems. This article reviews the development, key technical features, and deployment of TD-SCDMA in China.

TL;DR: This study proposes a three-layered auxiliary graph (AG) model to address mixed-electrical-optical grooming under dynamic traffic scenario, and proposes two spectrum reservation schemes that can efficiently utilize the capacity of a transponder.
Abstract: Traffic grooming has evolved to present some new features in sliceable bandwidth-variable transponder enabled elastic optical networks (SBVT-EON). One of the new features is “optical traffic grooming,” in which multiple optical flows from/to different sources/destinations can be groomed onto a sliceable transponder. When establishing a new connection request in SBVT-EON, a key problem is how to coordinate electrical and optical traffic grooming. In this study, we propose a three-layered auxiliary graph (AG) model to address mixed-electrical-optical grooming under dynamic traffic scenario. By adjusting the edge weights of AG, we can achieve various traffic-grooming policies for different purposes. Also, we propose two spectrum reservation schemes that can efficiently utilize the capacity of a transponder. We compare different traffic-grooming policies under two spectrum reservation schemes, and a tradeoff is shown to exist among the policies. We also evaluate their performances for different network topologies with different resource provisions.
