TL;DR: Unified descriptions of the SC, SCL, and SCS decoding algorithms are given as path search procedures on the code tree of polar codes and a new decoding algorithm called the successive cancellation hybrid (SCH) is proposed to provide a flexible configuration when the time and space complexities are limited.
Abstract: As improved versions of the successive cancellation (SC) decoding algorithm, the successive cancellation list (SCL) decoding and the successive cancellation stack (SCS) decoding are used to improve the finite-length performance of polar codes. In this paper, unified descriptions of the SC, SCL, and SCS decoding algorithms are given as path search procedures on the code tree of polar codes. Combining the principles of SCL and SCS, a new decoding algorithm called the successive cancellation hybrid (SCH) is proposed. This proposed algorithm can provide a flexible configuration when the time and space complexities are limited. Furthermore, a pruning technique is also proposed to lower the complexity by reducing unnecessary path searching operations. Performance and complexity analysis based on simulations shows that under proper configurations, all the three improved successive cancellation (ISC) decoding algorithms can approach the performance of the maximum likelihood (ML) decoding but with acceptable complexity. With the help of the proposed pruning technique, the time and space complexities of ISC decoders can be significantly reduced and be made very close to those of the SC decoder in the high signal-to-noise ratio regime.

TL;DR: To mitigate the intertier interference and improve energy efficiency (EE) performances in H-CRANs, characterizing user association with RRH/HPN is considered and the traditional soft fractional frequency reuse (S-FFR) is enhanced.
Abstract: Taking full advantage of both heterogeneous networks and cloud access radio access networks, heterogeneous cloud radio access networks (H-CRANs) are presented to enhance both spectral and energy efficiencies, where remote radio heads (RRHs) are mainly used to provide high data rates for users with high quality of service (QoS) requirements, whereas the high-power node (HPN) is deployed to guarantee seamless coverage and serve users with low-QoS requirements. To mitigate the intertier interference and improve energy efficiency (EE) performances in H-CRANs, characterizing user association with RRH/HPN is considered in this paper, and the traditional soft fractional frequency reuse (S-FFR) is enhanced. Based on the RRH/HPN association constraint and the enhanced S-FFR, an energy-efficient optimization problem with the resource assignment and power allocation for the orthogonal-frequency-division-multiple-access-based H-CRANs is formulated as a nonconvex objective function. To deal with the nonconvexity, an equivalent convex feasibility problem is reformulated, and closed-form expressions for the energy-efficient resource allocation solution to jointly allocate the resource block and transmit power are derived by the Lagrange dual decomposition method. Simulation results confirm that the H-CRAN architecture and the corresponding resource allocation solution can enhance the EE significantly.

TL;DR: State-of-the-art research on self-configuring and self-optimizing HetNets are surveyed, and their corresponding SON architectures are introduced and the performance gain of SON algorithms is demonstrated.
Abstract: Self-organizing network, or SON, technology, which is able to minimize human intervention in networking processes, was proposed to reduce the operational costs for service providers in future wireless systems. As a cost-effective means to significantly enhance capacity, heterogeneous deployment has been defined in the 3GPP LTEAdvanced standard, where performance gains can be achieved through increasing node density with low-power nodes, such as pico, femto, and relay nodes. The SON has great potential for application in future LTE-Advanced heterogeneous networks, also called HetNets. In this article, state-of-the-art research on self-configuring and self-optimizing HetNets are surveyed, and their corresponding SON architectures are introduced. In particular, we discuss the issues of automatic physical cell identifier assignment and radio resource configuration in HetNets based on selfconfiguring SONs. As for self-optimizing SONs, we address the issues of optimization strategies and algorithms for mobility management and energy saving in HetNets. At the end of the article, we show a testbed designed for evaluating SON technology, with which the performance gain of SON algorithms is demonstrated.

TL;DR: The analysis shows that the estimation performance of the proposed approach improves when the large-scale/massive MIMO systems are employed and the approximate Cramér-Rao bound ofThe proposed estimator for the 2-D localization is derived.
Abstract: In this paper, an approach of estimating signal parameters via rotational invariance technique (ESPRIT) is proposed for two-dimensional (2-D) localization of incoherently distributed (ID) sources in large-scale/massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. The traditional ESPRIT-based methods are valid only for one-dimensional (1-D) localization of the ID sources. By contrast, in the proposed approach the signal subspace is constructed for estimating the nominal azimuth and elevation direction-of-arrivals and the angular spreads. The proposed estimator enjoys closed-form expressions and hence it bypasses the searching over the entire feasible field. Therefore, it imposes significantly lower computational complexity than the conventional 2-D estimation approaches. Our analysis shows that the estimation performance of the proposed approach improves when the large-scale/massive MIMO systems are employed. The approximate Cramer-Rao bound of the proposed estimator for the 2-D localization is also derived. Numerical results demonstrate that albeit the proposed estimation method is comparable with the traditional 2-D estimators in terms of performance, it benefits from a remarkably lower computational complexity.

TL;DR: In this article, a self-powered ultraviolet photodetector was constructed with GaN/Ga2O3 p-n junction by depositing n-type Ga 2O3 thin film on Al2O 3 single crystals substrate covered by p-type GAN thin film, which exhibits a typical rectification behavior in dark and excellent photovoltaic characteristics under 365 nm and 254 nm light illumination.
Abstract: A self-powered ultraviolet photodetector was constructed with GaN/Ga2O3 p–n junction by depositing n-type Ga2O3 thin film on Al2O3 single crystals substrate covered by p-type GaN thin film. The fabricated device exhibits a typical rectification behavior in dark and excellent photovoltaic characteristics under 365 nm and 254 nm light illumination. The device shows an extremely high responsivity of 54.43 mA W−1, a fast decay time of 0.08 s, a high Ilight/Idark ratio of 152 and a high detectivity of 1.23 × 1011 cm Hz1/2 W−1 under 365 nm light with a light intensity of 1.7 mW cm−2 under zero bias. Such excellent performances under zero bias are attributed to the rapid separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs driven by built-in electric field in the interface depletion region of GaN/Ga2O3 p–n junction. The results strongly suggest that the GaN/Ga2O3 p–n junction based photodetectors are suitable for applications in secure ultraviolet communication and space detection which require high responsivity and self-sufficient functionality.
