TL;DR: In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of rotating drive trains in reversing hot mill are discussed, where linear reactions of a classical spring-mass mechanical system and nonlinear reactions of the mill drive train are studied.
Abstract: Dynamic characteristics of rotating drive trains in reversing hot mills are discussed. Linear reactions of a classical spring-mass mechanical system and nonlinear reactions of a mill drive train were studied by field tests and analytical computations. Meaningful approaches are offered by these studies to many mechanical problems which have been hitherto undefined.

03 Jun 1974TL;DR: In this article, an apparatus for minimizing arching of granular material within a gravity operated, batch-type hopper is presented, where a plate rotatable about a horizontal shaft is mounted within the hopper above a bottom discharge opening.
Abstract: An apparatus for minimizing arching of granular material within a gravity operated, batch-type hopper. A plate rotatable about a horizontal shaft is mounted within the hopper above a bottom discharge opening. Prior to charging, the plate is rotated to a horizontally extending position and during discharging to a vertically extending position. The plate is power actuated to cause rotation in a predetermined time interval after the opening of the hopper.

TL;DR: In this paper, a procedure of reduction of design S-N curves is developed considering the ''informative part of fatigue process, completed with the adjustment which accounts for the possible mismatch in conditions for fatigue damage in laboratory specimens and structural details''.
Abstract: The current procedures of fatigue design of ship structural components via application of S-N diagrams based on the test results of typified welded joints physically are not complete and may need in adjustment. The main base for discrepancies of actual and S-N-modeled fatigue behavior of structural details is formed by the fairly approximate following the principles of identity of material fatigue damage in fatigue assessment of structural details. The identity of fatigue damage in both, hull details and specimens may be limited by the initial phase of fatigue process, mostly within the stress concentration zone, specifically since the local conditions are assessed in fatigue analysis and in fatigue design of ship hull structures. To retain the current format of fatigue design a procedure of reduction of design S-N curves is developed considering the «informative part of fatigue process, completed with the adjustment which accounts for the possible mismatch in conditions for fatigue damage in laboratory specimens and structural details. The method is based on application of the local strain approach to fatigue assessment of both, the specimen and the detail. The adjustment suggests estimation of the ratio of fatigue lives of these and, respectively, correction of the reduced appropriate S-N diagram. The loading history of the detail comprises the feasible modes of loading and the service conditions, while the loading history of a specimen is related to the principal loading mode in a particular structure. A possible difference in fatigue properties of base-line specimen and structure materials may be considered.

28 Aug 1996TL;DR: An embossed cold rolled metal (e.g. steel) sheet for use in manufacturing appliances and method of making same wherein the surface attributes of the embossing sheet are optimized to improve corrosion resistance of the painted product, promote uniform paint coverage of the sheet surface, reduce paint consumption, enable repainting without loss of pattern crispness, and provide consistent and aesthetically pleasing appearance of the applied sheet as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: An embossed cold rolled metal (e.g. steel) sheet for use in manufacturing appliances and method of making same wherein the surface attributes of the embossed sheet are optimized to improve corrosion resistance of the painted product, promote uniform paint coverage of the sheet surface, reduce paint consumption, enable repainting without loss of pattern crispness, and provide consistent and aesthetically pleasing appearance of the painted sheet. The embossed sheet has a plurality of plateaus and impressions defined therein in a manner such that the arithmetic average surface roughness (Ra) of the plateaus is from about 50 to 100 microinches, the maximum impression depths over a given area are from about 0.0025 to 0.0032 inches, the impression walls define maximum slopes of from about 8-17 degrees, and there are no sharp corners or ridges at the transition points between plateaus and impressions.
