TL;DR: In this article, the segregation and precipitation of boron have been studied in two 0.2C−0.6Mn 0.5Mo steels containing (nominally) 10 and 50 ppm B.
Abstract: The segregation and precipitation of boron have been studied in two 0.2C−0.6Mn0.−5Mo steels containing (nominally) 10 and 50 ppm B. After heating to 1260 δC, samples were air-cooled to 870 °C and then held for times between 0 and 5000 seconds. Additional samples were heated to 1260 °C, air-cooled to 900 °C, reduced in thickness by 50 pct, and then held for various times at 870 °C, as above. The distributions of boron under these various conditions were investigated qualitatively by an autoradiographic technique. In both steels, segregation and/or precipitation of boron at austenite grain boundaries was detected under all conditions examined. Precipitation of iron borocarbide particles occurred along austenite grain boundaries in the 50 ppm B steel during cooling to the holding temperature of 870 °C, while in the 10 ppm B steel, such precipitation occurred only after long times at 870 °C. Mechanical properties of single-pass-rolled samples were measured after tempering to assess the effects of borocarbide precipitation on notch toughness. Such precipitation lowered the Charpy upper shelf energy and increased the transition temperature.

TL;DR: In this article, the effectiveness of rehabilitation by replacing rivets with high-strength structural bolts in critical or fatigue-damaged locations as a more economical alternative to replacement of entire members was studied.
Abstract: The paper describes a fatigue test program that studied the effectiveness of rehabilitation by replacement of rivets with high-strength structural bolts in critical or fatigue-damaged locations as a more economical alternative to replacement of entire members. Constant amplitude fatigue tests and variable amplitude service simulation tests of full-scale model ore bridge joints and constant amplitude tests of joints removed from an ore bridge showed that rehabilitation of fatigue-damaged members by fastener replacement increases fatigue life two to six times. It was found that cumulative damage analysis of the constant amplitude tests conservatively predicts the variable amplitude test phenomena. The effect on fatigue life extension of increasing bolt tension above the minimum value accepted in present specifications and the effect of crack length up to l in. (25 mm) long or both, at rehabilitation were found to be of secondary importance.

TL;DR: In this article, a method and apparatus for receiving and transporting hot coke in a coke oven pushing operation and controlling emissions is presented, consisting of a one-spot quench car having a receptacle which is tiltable to a receiving position, a travel and quench position, and a discharging position, with a hood structure provided to confine the gases during pushing and a collecting main removes the gases to a remote location for cleaning thereof.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for receiving and transporting hot coke in a coke oven pushing operation and controlling emissions resulting therefrom comprising a one spot quench car having a receptacle which is tiltable to a coke receiving position, a travel and quench position, and a coke discharging position. A hood structure is provided to confine the gases during pushing and a collecting main removes the gases to a remote location for cleaning thereof.

TL;DR: The Toop and Samis, Yokokawa and Niwa, and Lin and Pelton solution models for binary silicates were applied to the ΔG 2 m data at 1350 °C and parameters for the models were estimated to give best fits as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: The vapor pressures of Na above stirred Na2O-SiO2 melts in equilibrium with graphite and CO were determined at 1300° and 1400 °C using the transpiration technique. Compositions studied ranged from about 60 mole pct SiO2 to close to SiO2 saturation. Activities of components Na2O and SiO2 were calculated from the data. Log aNa2O (pure liquid as standard state) varies from about −8.7 and −8.5 at silica saturation to −6.3 and −6.1 at 40 mole pct Na2O at 1300° and 1400 °C, and the molar Gibbs energy of mixing, ΔG m, at the disilicate composition (XNa2O = 0.33) at each of these temperatures is −83.0 and −85.4 kJ, respectively. The Toop and Samis, Yokokawa and Niwa, and Lin and Pelton solution models for binary silicates were applied to the ΔG m data at 1350 °C and parameters for the models were estimated to give best fits. All three models show good correspondence with the measured ΔG m curve. The capabilities of the models in predicting activity data in this system have been compared.
