31 Dec 1981TL;DR: In this article, the authors determined the endpoint of devolatilization of a coal mass in a coke oven during a coking cycle by providing a probe which is capable of supplying an electrical signal which indicates the effective thickness of a layer of carbon deposited on the probe by gas released from the coal mass and in addition indicates the rate of devoating of coal mass.
Abstract: The endpoint of devolatilization of a coal mass in a coke oven during a coking cycle is determined by providing a probe which is capable of supplying an electrical signal which indicates the effective thickness of a layer of carbon deposited on the probe by gas released from the coal mass and in addition indicates the rate of devolatilization of the coal mass which is a measure of the heat input to the coal mass and can be used to control heat input to the coke oven.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for improving the formability of zinc coated steel sheet, and the product produced therefrom, is presented. But this method is not suitable for the case of high temperatures.
Abstract: A method for improving the formability of zinc coated steel sheet, and the product produced therefrom. The steps of the method include applying to the zinc coating an oxalic acid solution in an amount that will form a zinc oxalate film having a coating weight in a range of s about 10 mg/ft 2 to about 100 mg/ft 2 . A lubricant is applied to the zinc oxalate film, and the lubricant is adsorbed by the zinc oxalate film to provide a lubricated zinc oxalate film that is bonded to the zinc coating. The method produces an improved zinc coated sheet product having a tightly formed lubricated coating structure resistant to galling in the die steels of a forming press. The improved zinc coated sheet product having a lubricated zinc oxalate film improves formability and reduces the coefficient of friction during the forming operations that shape the zinc coated steel sheet or strip into a finished product shape.

23 Oct 1936TL;DR: In this article, a side frame for railway car trucks is described, where the top and bottom arch bars and column members are formed of pressed sheet metal and the journal boxes each formed of cast metal.
Abstract: Our invention relates to side frames for railway car trucks and more especially to truck side frames of the built up type in which the top and bottom arch bars and column members are formed of pressed sheet metal and the journal boxes each formed of cast metal, and the separate parts all secured...

01 Jul 1975TL;DR: In this article, a method for preparing strong, stable "green" balls of dry-collected iron-bearing fume, which contains not less than about 8% combined amount of lime (CaO) and magnesia (MgO), was described.
Abstract: A method for preparing strong, stable "green" balls of dry-collected iron-bearing fume, which contains not less than about 8% combined amount of lime (CaO) and magnesia (MgO). The fume is charged to a balling device where there is added to the fume a quantity of water equal to both the stoichiometric amount required to completely hydrate such lime and magnesia and to produce in the green balls a water content between about 7% - 12%. The residence time of the fume on the balling device is not less than about 8 minutes.
