TL;DR: In this article, the surface tension of liquid Fe-cr and Fe-Cr-N alloys was determined using ultrapure samples and modern image processing techniques, showing the typical disagreement.
Abstract: In the present work, surface tensions of liquid Fe-Cr and Fe-Cr-N alloys were determined. Previous studies on surface tensions of liquid Fe-base alloys show a large variation between investigations that could be due to the presence of surface-active impurities such as O or S in the alloy samples or due to inaccurate experimental techniques. A figure, which is a plot of the surface tension of liquid Fe-Cr alloys determined by previous investigators, shows the typical disagreement. The purpose of the present work is to determine accurate surface-tension values of liquid Fe-Cr and Fe-Cr-N alloys, using ultrapure samples and modern image processing techniques.

21 Mar 1973TL;DR: In this paper, wastewaters from a coke oven byproduct plant containing cyanides and objectionable complex organic compounds are treated by a high density sludge process, where aqueous high calcium lime slurry and the portion of recycled sludge are mixed for a time to obtain a uniform mix.
Abstract: Wastewaters, from a coke oven by-product plant, containing cyanides and objectionable complex organic compounds are treated by a high density sludge process. The wastewaters are mixed with an aqueous high calcium lime slurry and a portion of the sludge formed in the process, which portion is recycled in the process. The aqueous high calcium lime slurry and the portion of recycled sludge are mixed for a time to obtain a uniform mix. A solution containing iron values is added to the uniform mix. Iron cyanide compounds and a portion of the complex organic compounds are precipitated. The precipitate is flocculated and is passed to a settling tank wherein the precipitate settles out to form a high density sludge.

25 Jan 1988TL;DR: In this article, a method of monitoring the thickness of a longitudinally moving strip to permit quick detection of continuous defects includes the steps of scanning the strip a predetermined number of times measuring the thickness at a plurality of sites across the strip width, with each data set indicative of the thickness profile of the strip.
Abstract: A method of monitoring the thickness of a longitudinally moving strip to permit quick detection of continuous defects includes the steps of scanning the strip a predetermined number of times measuring the thickness at a plurality of sites across the strip width for thereby generating a plurality of data sets, or scans, with each data set indicative of the thickness profile of the strip. The scans are smoothed by combining the data sets and thereby generating a single representative profile. Additional profiles are generated and displayed in three dimensional format so that a plurality of profiles in sequential relation are continuously displayed to permit a continuous defect, when occurring, to be detected and displayed from at least one profile to an immediately subsequent profile.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of plastic strain on damping near the Snoek peak in α-Fe were investigated, and it was shown that strain always increased damping after torsional straining at 52°C and above, and the damping was greater than could be attributed to a C Snoekpeak.

TL;DR: Bethlehem Steel maintained a coal petrography laboratory in its Research Department from late 1962 until 1985 as mentioned in this paper, where the primary goals of the laboratory were to develop an accurate method for analyzing the microscopic composition of the coals used by Bethlehem and to correlate that analysis with various tests of coking quality and coking behavior, thus providing a predictive capability from which coals and coal blends could be selected and controlled for use in the cokemaking process.
